Oprah Winfrey is making her voice heard.
Ahead of the midterm elections, Winfrey hosted "A Virtual Voting Conversation" on Nov. 3, where she and community leaders discussed the importance of voting during the critical election.
During the candid conversation, Winfrey stressed having a plan and casting one's ballot, as well as the issues that are at stake.
If we do not show up to vote, if we do not get fired up in this moment, the people who will be in power will begin making decisions for us, she said. Decisions about how we care for our bodies, how we care for our kids, what books your children can read, who gets protected by the police and who gets targeted.
And right now, you have a say in these things we do, she added.
During the tail end of her conversation, Winfrey announced her support of Democrat John Fetterman, who is running for Senate against Republican Mehmet Oz in Pennsylvania.

I wish she would take ownership of the others she inflicted, too.

(51,638 posts)I question her judgment. I also question why so many Dem Americans wanted her to run for POTUS a few hears ago as well. What is the deal with Americans and their love of celebrities running for political office? They always suck. Can you imagine Kanye being POTUS?!? Why did everyone think Oprah was the be-all and end-all of Dem politics and who gives a shit what she thinks and who she supports?!?
OMGWTF
(3,978 posts)and he was forced out over a stupid joke. BTW, fk you Kirsten Gillibrand.

(51,638 posts)I always hesitate mentioning over Gillibrand on DU since the Jury was called saying I wasn't supporting Dems. I hate, hate, hate her due to what she did to Al!!!!!!! Can I say that now?

(10,216 posts)Who thinks she can read people but really can't.
She would probably think the tin man was really heartless, the scarecrow really dumb and the lion really cowardly. She only sees the surface.....

(1,946 posts)I think she really has a good heart and wants to help people. I watched her original show for years. It seemed like she would get swept up in any new trend and be very excited to give these people a stage to spout their schtick. Like she wanted to be everyone's spiritual guide, and be on the cutting edge especially of new-agey things, and I'm sure no one in her retinue would advise her against it. Things like 'The Secret', Oz, Phil, and many others. In the beginning they would sound good, but the more you heard the creepier they got. I'm glad she's spoken out but wish she would have done it earlier.

(89,276 posts)so i'm sure that was a big part of how they appealed to her . And how they would come off on tv.
Many doctors and other scientists don't do well when it comes to public speaking . Especially to an audience that are mostly not experts in the things they talk about.

(1,840 posts)I think the timing is actually pretty good - she's given a good message right at the time when people are voting. And she's right - the GOP wants to insert themselves into every aspect of our lives.
Heck, if they get into power we're gonna have to look under our beds before intimacy to make sure there's not a republican under there making sure that we're using the 'right' position, with the 'right' kind of person, there are no condoms on the nightstand or BCPs in the bathroom, and we'll have to show him (of course him) the marriage certificate.
And as taxpayers, we'd have to pay the bastard's salary.

(6,285 posts)Can I vote early?
Yes, Pennsylvania does offer in-person mail-in voting. You can choose whether to vote on Election Day or during the in-person mail ballot voting period, whichever is easier for you. This can be especially helpful if it would be difficult or not possible for you to vote on Election Day. Voting early at your local election office or other designated location may be less crowded, as well.
Learn more about early in-person mail-in voting in Pennsylvania.
Early voting is available at your local election office or other designated locations. Check Pennsylvania's site to find where to cast your in-person mail ballot or contact your local election office to find where to cast your in-person

(25,668 posts)She can't tell the future, gets enthusiastic about things and people that turn out not to be what they appear. It's not like being gullible and overly optimistic and trusting is unusual for Americans.
Then she gives a good speech and it's OPRAH FOR PRESIDENT, Michael Moore saying "Democrats would be better off if they ran Oprah or Tom Hanks ... why don't we run beloved people." The moment an Oprah or Tom Hanks ran for president, they'd plunge in popularity. Like how Hillary Clinton had a nearly 70% approval rating after being SOS and 17 years as Most Admired Woman in America. Poof, no more beloved, you're "flawed."
