Voted early in South Carolina 1hr wait to vote.

It wasn’t for lack of machines, just numbers of voters.

I was frustrated with the ballot. Why do Democrats leave so many offices uncontested?

There were 6 local offices with no Democrats and one for state rep.

It can’t be that hard to place a name in the slot.

There have never been lines in my district on election day, so I will vote on Tuesday.

About how no one would step up. But this district is blood red and I’ve seen some of the candidates we’ve ran here….

The Colonies would welcome you back? Same here no candidate sometimes. Locally Democrats seldom run anyone, in a Blue state. Pukes are good at local I guess. Nationally they suck canal water.

for anything. If I weren't 80 I would put my own name in an uncontested ballot slot.

As someone who's been on the party side of trying to get candidates to run for office, it's a whole lot harder to do when

a) The people who would be a great elected official aren't rich;

b) They don't have all the time in the world to devote to campaigning;

c) They don't have much chance of winning because the local electorate are +25 r.

d) They don't have the necessary personality to survive running for office. Are you aware of the type of person who tries to get elected? Let me assure you: Anyone who does that needs staggering self-confidence not to get torn to pieces from running that gauntlet. The problem with such people, though, is that they're used to winning in life. That means they hate--nay, LOATHE--to lose. At anything.

They also tend to be smart, so they are aware of how some races would be a waste of their time because they know they can't win. It's just not worth their time and effort. And if they won't run, then it becomes well nigh impossible to find anyone else to do it who doesn't have a screw loose.

But if you think it's so easy to find candidates, build a support team around them, lock in the funding, and get them elected, then by all means, please go down to the local Democratic HQ and show us all how it's done.

(As far as the uncontested races, not the early voting lines.) My thought is that maybe Democratic candidates should run as Independents (for non-state wide races). We have two Democratic leaning school board candidates in my very red county who are doing that - we'll see how they do on Tuesday.

Compete everywhere. It seems those lessons were lost to time for the Democrats. Very unfortunate

No slot anywhere uncontested.

Talk with the people everywhere. Let them see we all want the same basic things, you'll win a few over. At a minimum they would respect you more for expressing your opinion and explaining what you stand for. That woud at least give you a foothold in areas we've been writing off in order to “focus resources elsewhere.”

Local candidates just need to be on the ballot. $250 in some places. That's all they would need to be there to catch the anti-incumbent vote, to at least have an alternative for voters, in the event of a scandal.

Not being there to defend your beliefs looks weak. Be everywhere.

It's easy to complain about getting people to run for office.

It's a whole lot harder to, you know, do it.

The reasons why YOU didn't run are the reasons other people didn't.

Then why didn't you run for one of those offices?

Gee, maybe the reasons why YOU didn't run are why other people didn't.

If no one steps up, then what is the local party supposed to do? Drag someone into it, kicking and screaming, just so you could have someone to vote for?
