I know ya gotta make a buck.

(5,964 posts)...but have you considered a star membership? You need only pay what you choose to. The cost per year to be free of those ads can be extremely minimal.

The ads are thrown up by algorithms, and nobody in management has anything to do with their choice.

(4,044 posts)This is wasted republican ad money. Good!
As if it has not been said before, get a star membership and really be a part of DU.

(38,039 posts)The Florida governor is discussed here often. That's why you see those ads. DU does not serve those ads intentionally.

(9,220 posts)Seriously, it's every other ad for me.
I made the mistake of doing some jeans shopping while having FB open.
And now it's just crotch milk all of the time.

(698 posts)Easy to download. Ads go away immediately and the analytics programs cannot grab your data.
Kind of surprised that more DUers aren't using it.

(12,461 posts)of donating a few bucks a year to an organization that they consider a vital news source and often, family. The lack of a star is considered by some to be a troll giveaway, since a MAGA member wouldnt dream of giving funding to Democratic Underground.

(698 posts)Google and other analytics collectors from harvesting, selling and using my data -- that's the part that's important to me. And no disruptive ads -- ever -- while I'm on DU.
That's the point: Why let these bad players take your data and run crappy ads? Seems an unnecessarily high price to claim a stiff resolve.

(2,475 posts)Been using DDG for ages and no ads. I love it, and I'm no troll despite what some may suggest due to the absence of a star.

(5,950 posts)he can afford to rub it in our faces. Hard to know which because his ads are ridiculously bad (Top Gov & and his blasphemous 'on the 8th day' are good examples), and he is known to be a vengeful prick.

(48,849 posts)It is a total waste of GOP resources spending advert money on a solid Dem voting block.
Every dollar the GOP spends here is a dollar not spent on an independent who might vote MAGA.

(54,154 posts)Either (1) they have enough money that they don't feel they need to target the ads smartly or (2) whoever's buying their ads is being careless with how he spends the money.

Good point you are making.

(54,154 posts)How targeted a politician's ads have to be is a measure of both how good they are at managing budgets and how much they need to manage their own budget..
This probably indicates (1) that Ron DeSantis is casting a wider net than he ought to be with his ad dollars and (2) that he has enough ad dollars that he can afford to cast a wider net.

(29,153 posts)The campaign is spending money that, from this website one would hope, won't be providing much return on their investment.
And if DUers click on the ad, so much the better, because that's money/clicks that they're not reaching their target audience with.

Kick in to the DU tip jar?
This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
