Whats special about Novembers lunar eclipse?
The last total lunar eclipse for three years will occur on November 8, 2022, with the next occurring on March 14, 2025 though we will continue to see partial and penumbral lunar eclipses during that time.
A lunar eclipse occurs when the Sun, Earth, and Moon align so that the Moon passes into Earths shadow. In a total lunar eclipse, the entire Moon falls within the darkest part of Earths shadow, called the umbra. When the Moon is within the umbra, it will turn a reddish hue. Lunar eclipses are sometimes called Blood Moons because of this phenomenon.
How can I observe the eclipse?
You dont need any special equipment to observe a lunar eclipse, although binoculars or a telescope will enhance the view and the red color. A dark environment away from bright lights makes for the best viewing conditions.
Totality ― the stage of the eclipse where the Moon is entirely in Earths shadow ― will be visible across North and Central America and in Ecuador, Colombia, and western portions of Venezuela and Peru. In Puerto Rico, the Moon sets just after totality begins. The eclipse is also visible in Asia, Australia, and New Zealand. Viewers in Alaska and Hawaii will have the opportunity to see every stage of the eclipse.

(8,503 posts)The Flat Earth Society was started in 1956 by Samuel Shenton, whose work was continued by Charles K. Johnson, in 1972.
The majority of the flattened view people stem from this time and depend upon distorted information largely originated by Shenton and a few others since. There has never been a scientific basis for it. A great deal of Shenton's "information" was taken out of historical context to support his delusion. Many people who have read his material or its derivatives are un-aware of this deception.
By the 1st century BC the idea of a roughly circular planet was commonplace and had been considered true by most educated people for at least 200 years before that.
So for most of the previous 2000 years the commonly understood view was that the earth had to be curved. Far too much was explained by that perspective based upon observation, experience, and reason. Which meant that a "linear" planet theory could not do so.

I guess they have nothing else gong on in their lives.
It does draw a lot of attention and gets people speaking to them, which could be intoxicating.
Perhaps that's one of the lures of those QAnon people. They have nothing else and need a lightning topic.
Positive attention / Negative attention is still attention. The key is not not reward negative attention seekers.

FWIW there was no way I was going to ever have time to even get the book out of my kit bag.
Waste of weight in that bag.
We never popped the popcorn I took either! I took my Democrat blue silicone popper and some plain ole chemical free popcorn but that never came out of the bag either
The cookies however were well received. I only gave out 2 to first time voters but the crew loved them, especially at closing when we were all starving and wanted to kill our leadjudge

Thank you for serving on Election Day. What was wrong with your lead judge?
