The accepted rule of thumb was that, in general, high voter turn out favored Democrats. I still belief in democracy so I can't bring myself to root against people showing up to vote on Election Day, but the trends in early voting have scrambled my expectations. The last two election cycles conventional wisdom has shifted. Overall high participation in elections still seems to favor Democrats, but not on Election Day itself in many places. Now hearing about heavy turn out doesn't cheer me up, it makes me nervous, unless it is happening around college campuses or in heavily Democratic districts.

(14,648 posts)All Dems! This district is anything but Democratic and it's not a college campus, and they're not young. With all the shenanigans that the GQP has been trying with mail-in ballots, I wouldn't be surprised to see a lot of Dems voting today in all sorts of venues, just to make sure their votes get counted.
My husband and I voted by mail 2 weeks ago. Now that we're old, we're allowed to do that here.

(22,917 posts)Mixed district. I live right across the street from our polling place and we don't get very long lines. Mid afternoon it goes pretty quickly so I almost always vote on Election Day. Lately I figure I'm doing my small bit to keep our Dems in the running with the same day voting returns

(2,845 posts)I'd prefer to vote on election day, but I like voting early to have it in for sure. They give us the two weekends before and the whole set of weekdays in between. Actual ballot scanned just like election day, not a postal ballot.
