I love love love Dolly Parton
But $100 millions ?
I have full faith She will likely do great things with the windfall, but shit, why not give $100 millions to national food banks? Why not every fucking school? Why not Veterans?
For crying out loud, man! Why give it to someone who has everything?
Be. Practical.
Help millions, not one (even if the one will do something good)!!! FFS!

(31,506 posts)And it's backfiring. He's an idiot. But of course, Dolly will be gracious. But he'll never be more than an egotistical idiot. He and Elon should start a mutual admiration society.

Looks like Jeff is going hard in trying to surpass his wife's reputation for altruism.

They can give it all to their own charity, Bezos said last year. Or they can share the wealth. It is up to them....(more)

(27,835 posts)... that Dolly wasn't going to spend the money on a yacht, a house on the French Riviera, and a flashy new wardrobe.
He didn't give her the money to "help one" rather than "millions" - he gave it to someone who he knew would ensure that it helped as many people as possible, in the best way possible.

(3,234 posts)Dolly Parton is filthy rich.
Billionaires shouldn't be giving multi-millionaires money. That's money which could go to poor & working class people.
That's $ which could go towards building housing for the unsheltered & other social justice issues.
That said....
If there was 1 wealthy person who I'd choose then Dolly Parton would be near if not at the top of my list.

(60,320 posts)He announced he is giving away the bulk of his $124 billion fortune, say $100 billion.
Millions are a thousandth of billions. One tenth of one percent.
In my opinion, Dolly is an excellent recipient for starting such big philanthropy.

(7,794 posts)On one hand there's the fruit of a money-grubbing megalomaniac's labor and on the other a conscience crippling pile of ill-gotten gain. Why are billionaires crazy? Because their life revolves around the question, "how much should I keep and why?"
Rule of thumb: Literally, the richer, the crazier.
