(965 posts)Not a smart post

(10,434 posts)A lying grifting criminal and cabal, who operated openly, is free to incite murder and run for president. We need either arrests or a damn good explanation of why there are none.

(9,415 posts)Except in some banana republic far far away. This, BTW, is a damn good explanation of why there are no arrests.

(10,434 posts)We want him arrested for the crimes we saw him commit.

(9,415 posts)It is determined by due process of law. It is not up to Garland to interpret the process. He is supposed to follow it, as it is written into law, not as we saw it.

(1,956 posts)If you or I took two documents from the Whitehouse we'd be on our 4th day of trial.
They knew he took classified material, they did a search, found and retrieved said materials, they have first hand testimony trump himself handled those said materials! What fricken more do they need? what I just mentioned would get any person reading this in a holding cell waiting for trial!
Garland is to scared and timid to do anything, Period!

(9,415 posts)from due process of law, we'd be sipping Margaritas in Bora Bora. Same process for everyone. The only difference is that Trump's lawyers know all the ins and the outs of the process, and we don't even know how to get out of a parking ticket. It's a function of our ignorance, not the rule of law. There are volumes of rules Garland has to follow. The only way to change the rules is to legislate new ones. Thats the job for YOUR elected officials, not Garland.

(42,752 posts)You, like so many DUers live in a tv-based unreal world in which crimes are discovered, tried, and punished in 60 minutes, not counting commercials.
In the real world, it doesn't work like that and never has.
For example, Sandy Berger walked out of NARA with classified documents. That he had done so was discovered by NARA in October 2003 and referred to DOJ shortly thereafter. He was never arrested. He was investigated (an investigation that wasn't publicly acknowledged until 2004) and then plead guilty in 2005 to a misdemeanor and sentenced to two years of probation -- he never spent a day in jail, either before or after his guilty plea.
Or, more recently, federal authorities began investigating Benjamin Pierce Bishop with electronic surveillance at least as early as September 2012 and conducted a search of his home in November 2012. That investigation and search established that he was passing classified information to a Chinese citizen and that he also was in possession of classified materials in his home. A criminal complaint was not sworn out against Bishop until March 2013. Initially, he was released to a halfway house pending trial but he violated the terms of his pre-trial release and returned to custody. But he wasn't sentenced, as part of a plea agreement, until March 2014 -- 18 months after the investigation began

(3,876 posts)about January 6th should be enough to indict and convict. It sure would be if these were ordinary citizens. Oh, wait, that's right, ordinary citizens in the hundreds are being arrested, plea bargaining or serving prison terms for January 6th.
So why not the orange headed buffoon? How much does it cost to buy a grand jury.
If Democrats want to win in 2024, then doing this is a must.

He doesn't get rated by Rotten Tomatoes, and he doesn't get voted on by the Film Academy.

(7,853 posts)we want Garland to indict the sonofabitch now, but Garland did not create the monster ..the Republican Party did...Trump is the culmination of 60 years of Republican power-hungry white christian nationalist hate...I suspect Mitch and the boys would breathe a sigh of relief if Garland arrested Trump and absolved them of their willing/eager participation in the near destruction of the Constitution.. they could have shut him up, exiled him, made him irrelevant, voted to impeach (the first time), but Trump was their vehicle to pass tax cuts for the top 1%, pack the courts with incompetent half-wit extremist nobodies, and decimate Roe v Wade
I absolutely want to see the orange cretin dragged out of his gold plated hidey-hole, gagged, and handcuffed like right this second, but much more than that I want the Republican Party to pay dearly for backing/encouraging/excusing a malignant psychopath, a depraved, cruel, crude, vengeful amoral pathological liar..I want them to suffer excruciating political pain for separating families, babies in cages, shithole countries, "good people on both sides", coddling despots, insulting allies, dissing NATO, downplaying the pandemic, trashing Fauci and career scientists in favor of quacks and shamans, ingesting bleach, normalizing racial/ethnic/LGBTQ hatred, guns over chidren, whitewashing January 6 and actively participating in the failed coup attempt to deny Joe Biden the presidency..I want to watch the GOP implode..
and if Trump's run for the nomination causes the loathsome GOP backstabbing bloody humiliation..good, don't blame Garland for not shutting up/shutting down their shit-stained monster..we need Trump gagged and on trial, an example of what not to be when we grow up..Mitch and need Trump as a scapegoat..not the same thing..
