Elon Musk gives ultimatum to Twitter employees: Do 'extremely hardcore' work or get out

Twitter’s new owner Elon Musk has given employees until Thursday evening to commit to “extremely hardcore” work or else leave the company, according to a copy of a late-night internal email sent by the billionaire and obtained by CNN.

“Going forward, to build a breakthrough Twitter 2.0 and succeed in an increasingly competitive world, we will need to be extremely hardcore,” Musk wrote in the memo. “This will mean working long hours at high intensity. Only exceptional performance will constitute a passing grade.”

In the memo, Musk goes on to outline how Twitter will be “much more engineering-driven” and then gives staff an ultimatum. “If you are sure that you want to be part of the new Twitter, please click yes on the link below,” directing staff to what appears to be an online form.

Musk said any employee who has not done so by 5 p.m. ET on Thursday will receive three months severance. The Washington Post was first to report the memo.

you take the three months severance and go find another job.

he's basically openly telling you he's going to have 1/3rd the staff and expect everyone to work three times as hard, and that job is NOT worth the trips to the hospital for ulcer/heart attack/nervous breakdown its going to cause. GET OUT NOW

He does not value his employees and is looking for people that he can bully around. The place will be dysfunctional in no time.

At this rate, he might do better by torching the place and collecting the insurance.

He can force workers to work long hours to make more cars by the end of the quarter. Those tactics simply don't work at a business like Twitter.

All he's doing with his toxic management is driving away his best employees and a good portion of his customers and advertisers. A social network runs off a reservoir of goodwill and trust. At this point, that reservoir is running dry.

His kind of free speech.

Like no criticism of EgoLoon.

No Mollusk parody accounts.

Free pass for repeating baseless conspiracy theories that are wrong on the face of them, ... the way he did very recently.

I don't personally know anyone who uses Twitter but I do remember trump saying he was going to "save" it early on.

And that message tainted the whole concept. I've never truly believed anything that comes from there.

The right to keep your job at Twitter, probably at the same pay rate, or maybe a small raise above what you got without having to sell yourself into corporate bondage? What a deal!

If I worked there I'd have to be in dire financial straights and afraid of my ability to find a job elsewhere in order to stay. I suspect that's a lot of the only people Musk will be able to keep.
