Daniel Jacks had been with the Riverside County Sheriff's Department since 2008, and his daughter, Hannah, was a dancer who had performed at Disneyland
---
According to a statement from the Riverside County Sheriff's Department, Correctional Corporal Daniel Jacks, 45, of San Jacinto, and his daughter Hannah died as a result of the collision, which took place in Hemet at about 9:17 p.m.
FoxLA reports the father and daughter were coming home from Disneyland, where Hannah had been performing as a dancer. The California Highway Patrol says the collision took place when another car traveling in the opposite direction crossed over the double yellow line and hit them head-on.
The driver of the other vehicle, Scott Bales, 47, of Moreno Valley, has been charged with two counts of murder and one count of DUI causing bodily injury, according to Riverside County jail records.
The Desert Sun, citing county court records, reports Bales was previously convicted of DUI in Riverside County in 2008, 2014 and 2020. The East Bay Times reports he has not had a valid driver's license since 2005.

Yeah, I get that ethanol is a hard drug to quit. But it is easy to quit DUI. Don't drive to the bar.

They tend not to tense up and brace themselves. Quite often because they are out of the loop and not expecting a collision.

(24,906 posts)6. With three DUIs and no license,
he should have been charged with a felony and done prison time. Maybe he did, but it wasn't enough.

(37,113 posts)9. Here are details of how he was punished for each DUI
Riverside County Superior Court records show Bales was convicted in 2008 of misdemeanor driving under the influence of alcohol and driving without a license. He was sentenced to 120 days to be served on weekends and 30 days in the sheriffs labor program.
In 2011, he pleaded guilty to misdemeanor driving under the influence and driving without a license. He was sentenced to 150 days in the sheriffs work-release program and five years probation. He was ordered to attend 34 Alcoholics Anonymous meetings and wear an alcohol-detection bracelet.
And in 2015, Bales pleaded guilty to felony driving under the influence, driving without a license and speeding. Online court records show that he was sentenced to one year of supervised release. The amount of jail time he was sentenced to was unclear

(29,949 posts)7. CostaRica has a great system.
First, the plate stays with the car when it sells.
If you OWI you dont just lose your license, you lose the plates. It can take a long time to get those plates back. Drunks cant borrow cars because if caught the borrowed car loses their plates.
