Democratic challenger Cerrato takes 37-vote lead over incumbent state Rep. Stephens
By Kenny Cooper November 16, 2022
After Montgomery County elections officials tallied more votes Wednesday afternoon, Democrat Melissa Cerrato gained a 37-vote lead over incumbent Republican state Rep. Todd Stephens in the race for the 151st state House district, according to unofficial results.
Montgomery County spokesperson Kelly Cofrancisco told WHYY News that all of the districts outstanding ballots are now reflected in the results except 59 provisional ballots that are subject to a Friday hearing.
The competitive state House seat in Montgomery County is one of two remaining too-close-to-call state Legislature races along with the 142nd state House District in Bucks County. If Democrats win just one of the suburban contests, the party will seize control of the chamber for the first time in more than a decade.
Republicans will need to secure victories over both seats if they are to maintain a slim majority in the state House. With such high stakes, attorneys for candidates in both races have been engaged in a legal battle over the counting of certain provisional ballots.

I think she originally had a 14 vote lead. What is left are the provisionals which are supposed to be reviewed Friday.
Hope this holds!!!!! The GOP psycho squad in the state House voted to impeach my D.A. today so this would be just desserts!
ETA - found this for the other contested seat -

Republican Joe Hogan emerged Wednesday with a lead for a still-undecided state House seat in Bucks County after counting of all remaining approved provisional and flagged mail-in ballots.
Hogans lead in the 142nd District seat, after final reviews and processing of questioned mail ballots and provisional votes cast on Election Day, stood at 54 votes. He had received 15,448, to Democrat Mark Moffas 15,394.
Lawyers for both sides still have some pending challenges to the Board of Elections decisions on certain ballots that may be resolved next week.
If Hogans win does hold up, however, Republicans now hold 101 seats in the state House.

(2,175 posts)Love this. The question I have, I live in Ohio and we are a Qpublican state, one state over with the same kind of population. What did Pennsylvania do, that we need to do in Ohio?

(25,253 posts)of the Maga are based in the central section--Penntucky. It is not populated like the suburbs around Pittsburgh and Philly. Plus at the top of ticket we had two much liked canditates vs. two assholes. Read today Dems took the state house.

(2,175 posts)I realize that Klantucky has a great influence there. But I mean Columbus, with Ohio University is there, with educated people. I just cant believe how shellacked the governor race was. Sorry for whining. Just mad.

We have a bipartisan legislative redistricting commission comprised of the R and D majority and minority leader of the house and Senate. The 5th person is non-partisan and appointed by the PA supreme court. That person was former Pitt Chancellor Mark Nordenberg.
The new map conformed to our constitution for compact and contiguous districts that don't divide municipalities. The new map also recognized the population shift from west to east creating more state house districts in the more populated eastern/SE PA areas.
Otoh, the commission only tinkered around the edges of the state senate districts (there's only 50). The R senate leader was happy with that map for the senate and she voted with the 2 Dems + Nordenberg to approve the maps. Benninghoff the R house leader voted no and now we know why.

(2,655 posts)Also, the long-term Dem incumbent in the district north of me lost to a female millionaire Repub newcomer. Here, in the western part of the state, between Pittsburgh and Erie, the Repubs are running strong, just as they are in other mostly rural parts of the Commonwealth.

(15,289 posts)Dems knew they'd pick up seats because of the new, less gerrymandered.map, but flipping the state house was thought to be a little out of reach.
