Twitter just told employees all office buildings are temporarily closed, badge access is suspended

Last edited Thu Nov 17, 2022, 11:26 PM - Edit history (2)

EDITING: I'm seeing reports online that this is happening because hundreds of Twitter employees quit in response to Musk's ultimatum telling them they had to commit to working very long hours. Some tweets are saying 75% of the employees quit.

ANOTHER EDIT to let you know that Kylie Robison, tech reporter for Fortune magazine, is posting updates at https://twitter.com/kyliebytes .

From the managing editor of Platformer:

NEW: Twitter just alerted employees that effective immediately, all office buildings are temporarily closed and badge access is suspended. No details given as to why.

We're hearing this is because Elon Musk and his team are terrified employees are going to sabotage the company. Also, they're still trying to figure out which Twitter workers they need to cut access for.

Offices will reopen on November 21st. In the meantime: "Please continue to comply with company policy by refraining from discussing confidential company information on social media, with the press or elsewhere."

EDITING AGAIN to add updates from Zoe Schiffer:

NEW: The designers leading Elon Musk’s Blue verified project are out, along with the lead web engineer. Many Twitter employees who maintained critical infrastructure have resigned. This is going to look like a very different company tomorrow.

So far no Twitter employees have been deactivated — even those who’ve publicly resigned. Musk and his team only collected the list of “yes’s” — employees who said they want to be part of Twitter 2.0. They’re still trying to track who is out.

Every minute detail of everything he does with the platform is exposed and readily apparent. His whole persona is his 'mystique' and posing. Not that many people actually own Teslas (relatively speaking) and those owners are posers too so sing his praises. How many regular people fly in his rockets? Not many. But Twitter is the great democratizer. He bought it because he didn't like peons talking back to him, big mistake.

It's glide-sloping downwards; without the in-house knowledge on such a large-scale system architecture and the regular internal housekeeping it requires, Twitter will bloat, falter and collapse.

avoid independent thinking. Prepare to surrender total autonomy over your personal freedom, and dedicate yourself selflessly to the mission of your new owner. You no longer have a life independent of your employer and his enrichment. Get used to it or leave.

Doesn't it seem like there have been a lot of of "odd" behavior in the rich (Kanye, Elon), powerful (the orange menace), and politicians? They are having some world class meltdowns and crazy spells. What the heck is going on?

If he is doing it on purpose, consider the usual motives: money and/or power.

Greed, ambition, sex, revenge. Usually the culprits in many crimes.

Saudi hates social media, it fuels protest. They could have paid Musk to destroy Twitter.
And promised all kinds of things to him. Like they did with Trump and Kushner.

Or maybe Musk is having a total psychotic break. Right in front of our eyes.
Possible bi-polar.
Possible drug use.

Not sure yet what is going on.
