General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsThe mass exodus at Twitter is all over the business news today. I don't use Twitter, but curious from those who
do, are there any moderators over their controlling hate and violent content?
The news indicated that the Twitter offices will be closed this weekend, so I suspect that they have a minimum crew keeping the platform operational, but are there any content controls still in place?

But it's back when I look now.
I found this article on MxM News--a new app without media bias or censorship."
Googling the "new app" revealed it's his own app that "aggregates news."

Musk will have to do massive emergency hiring to save it.

I can't imagine advertisers being too comfortable being on that platform though
I agree it would have to be some type of emergency hiring to keep things going, but even with that, unless they are previous or current Twitter employees, it will take time for them to get up to speed.
Boy, it sure seems that he has made a mess out of things

(1,000 posts)Muskrat has an affectation to "citizen journalist." That is how he claims to view Twitter. Funny thing is, Legacy media are corporations too. Just like Elon, they don't like paying taxes, they don't like regulation, and they like for their employees to parrot their narrative. Think CNN or FOX. That kind of "citizen journalists."
Small wonder then that among his first acts was posting disinformation on the attack on Paul Pelosi, then taking it down without apology as facts came out. Yay, "citizen journalists."
His "free speech absolutism" means his. Corporations are people too, my friend.

They're going to file bankruptcy, so maybe this was more about tanking the company to off load its debt. Then he'll build it from the ground up again.
One thing, people are staying on Twitter right now, because they want to see what happens to Twitter.
Twitter doesn't run itself, like some people have been saying. You need a large team of good people to keep things running. A site that widely used probably has analytics that are monitored 24/7 to make sure functionality is still working.

(61,715 posts)Authoritarians need to get rid of twitter. It's leveling the playing field and allowing too much real information to be exchanged.
I don't think it's a coincidence that Musk is tanking twitter right after the Republicans' disappointing elections.

(49,047 posts)1) Authoritarians don't want to get rid of Twitter. They want to use Twitter, warp Twitter.
2) Their beef is not "too much info". Their beef is that their misinformation keeps getting blocked.
3) Musk started taking over Twitter in April. The results of the November election were not known in April.
4) Musk's goals were stated long ago and have nothing to do with election results.
5) Musk was sinking Twitter (remember his grand entrance carrying the sink? Guess not) before the election.

"Nonsense" of course refers to the content of the post, not the poster.

(61,715 posts)The thread wasn't about abortion. Some troll put an egregious "at least he's not killing babies" post with a truly horrible image that was NOT an abortion or anything close. In the past that would not have lasted long enough for me to see it hours later.

(7,279 posts)because I've seen some Twitter chat about reporting tweets in recent hours. Some of it will be automated, but there may still be a skeleton human presence.
Moderation's always been very hit or miss on Twitter anyway.
The site's unlikely to just suddenly disappear despite the layoffs and lockout as the hosting is a separate function maintained elsewhere, so as long as those bills get paid, it'll stay up barring disasters, but some features are reportedly getting even crankier than usual or don't work at all (none crucial to my use of it so far), and there will come a crunch at some point.
It's probably wide open for a DDOS or other attack, though.
