May he rest in peace in perpetual light.
We should remember.
That is all.

(4,552 posts)I was in 2nd grade attending Catholic school. Our desks still had ink wells. They weren't in use but they were there.
First and second grade were in the same classroom. One Nun, probably 50 plus kids.
The nuns were very upset.

(1,967 posts)Fourth period class, about 10 minutes into class. Carolyn C. came in late, her face was pale. She said the president had been shot. She and her mother heard it on the car radio, coming to school from a doctor appointment. The teacher, Mr. James, said no, it couldn't have happened. Disbelief all around
Then we heard the intercom click on. We knew what the principal, Mr. Sanders, was going to say. A short time later we were told school was over for the day.
I walked home in a daze.

(30,736 posts)clattering away on an old manual typewriter. Someone noticed that the intercom was chiming. We all stopped typing. The principal told us what had happened. We went back to typing for a few minutes. Then, he came on again, and left the radio on for the whole school to hear. The announcer said that Kennedy had been shot in the head. The meanest boy in the whole school sat in front of me. He put his head down and cried.
The bell rang shortly after Kennedy's death was confirmed. Everyone went to their next class. The hallways of my crowded school were so quiet that the only thing I could hear was the opening and closing of lockers.
I went to geometry class. A few minutes later, the principal sent us home.
I was fifteen.

(5,275 posts)I was a youngster then too but old enough to be sad and shaken.
Look at who got shot a killed in a space of a few years back then.....JFK, MLK, RFK. All liberals. What might have been.
As for the JFK murder, I believed Oswald did it till finally someone got the film and ran it on TV.
Since then more film has surfaced to convince me Oswald was a convenient patsy.
