around the country? It's shameful that this is still going on. Is there really nothing anyone can do?

(1,766 posts)And, behold, a woman of Canaan came out of the same coasts, and cried unto him, saying, Have mercy on me, O Lord, thou son of David; my daughter is grievously vexed with a devil. But he answered her not a word. And his disciples came and besought him, saying, Send her away; for she crieth after us. But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
Then came she and worshipped him, saying, Lord, help me. But he answered and said, It is not meet to take the children's bread, and to cast it to dogs.
Matthew 15:22-26
Sure, he eventually helped her. But only after abusing her to her face repeatedly. And, oh yeah, after receiving much groveling from her up front.
So are you still surprised that people following a guy who would call a foreign woman and her child "dogs" to the mom's face would have no great love for foreign migrants? Maybe if the migrants groveled a bit more, they'd get better treatment?

FWIW, why is it better to be in Texas than, say, NY or Massachusetts.

(4,075 posts)While they are 'volunteering' to go, it is after being lied to.
But truly some have ended up in better places.
It is shameful though that it is happening using these folks as political pawns is terrible.
The cognitive dissonance is huge on this issue for me.

(1,766 posts)They voluntarily chose to go with him, so it's their own fault that he killed them.
You sure you want to keep using that argument?
It's not voluntary if you're being lied to and preyed upon for sadistic reasons, especially if you're someone more vulnerable than most. These are desperate people who are unfamiliar with how to navigate the immigration system here. That is being used against them to take advantage of them, and worse, to score cheap political points at their expense.
That's why it's wrong to treat them this way.

(94,571 posts)The question asked was: what can we do about Abbott. My answer is: nothing unless youre aware of a crime being committed.

(33,346 posts)In or around September 2022, Defendants and their unidentified accomplices designed and executed a premeditated, fraudulent, and illegal scheme centered on exploiting this vulnerability for the sole purpose of advancing their own personal, financial and political interests. This scheme involved the unidentified Doe Defendants, acting in concert with the named Defendants, identifying and targeting class members by trolling streets outside of a migrant shelter in Texasand other similar locales, pretending to be good Samaritans offering humanitarian assistance.

(35,337 posts)thousands of immigrants every year. If we are going to take in all these people, all states should help
take on that responsibility. I don't know the solution but what we are doing is not working.

(1,766 posts)Is taking in "illegal" immigrants. Millions of them have come in on perfectly legal visas, then quietly overstay them--by design, and not a peep about that abuse of the system. Especially if it's a nice white European doing the overstaying.
Funny how people only get mad when it's people from south of the border coming here, and never mind how most of them are doing it after our very actions of meddling in their country's affairs have messed up those places beyond all repair and made it unsafe for them to stay there.

(36,464 posts)They don't even do the courtesy of giving notice. These people's lives are nothing but political theater to them.

(24,292 posts)But I think a lot of those people will look back and say it was a good move for them. I hope so, anyway. I am glad to see the people in the states they are arriving in being as helpful as they can be.
CrispyQ
(36,464 posts)but it's such a despicable display of political pandering, and with people who are so vulnerable, it just seems that someone should have the authority to shut this shit show down.

(24,292 posts)I'm of Northern European descent, but I grew up in a Hispanic neighborhood. My high school was 49% Hispanic. I've been around immigrants much of my life, and these are generally very tough people. Some of these folks walked from Central America to the Texas border. Anyone who wants to be here that bad should get to stay. I hope they get to stay here and I hope they will do well. I think they will.
