NBC NewsBut despite Trump suggesting that the event was uneventful, the fallout over his dinner with Fuentes appears to have thrown Trumps campaign into damage control mode. The former president took hours to respond publicly after multiple media outlets reported that Fuentes was present at the dinner.
Even the two Trump advisers winced at how a Holocaust denier like Fuentes was able to wind up with Trump at dinner even if it was by mistake along with the rapper, who had just had his Twitter account restored but lost major endorsement deals for making antisemitic remarks.
"This is a f---ing nightmare," said one longtime Trump adviser who spoke on condition of anonymity for fear of stoking the former president's ire at "disloyal" people who criticize him. "If people are looking at [Florida Gov. Ron] DeSantis to run against Trump, here's another reason why."

(7,849 posts)and a whore to ass-kissing praise...Trump says he didn't know Fuentes, supposedly an uninvited guest, was an antisemite, but not to worry because three virulent Jew-haters shared a meal and not one of those vile cretins spewed a stereotypical trope....now that's what I call gaslighting!!!

(23,402 posts)He is powerfully communicating that he is not a conservative Republican - he is an anti-Semitic national-conservative. Like the old German national-conservatives, he is comfortable and at ease dining with a national socialist.

(38,557 posts)But he was right about one thing... no matter what he does, INCLUDING a public rejection of knowing these groups, he won't lose their votes. He'll stand in front of a camera and deny them, posts his denials of them on his platform,... (you name it, he'll take whatever press he can get (as usual)) and DENY any association with them or even any knowledge of them and they will STILL support him.

(35,670 posts)Is an acceptable excuse?
In any other world, it is not.
In academia, for example, if you were unaware of a commentator whose remarks affected your area of expertise and you said you were unaware, no one would believe you.

(46,104 posts)Who truly believes that TFG didn't know exactly who was at HIS table? It's set apart from the other diners with velvet ropes. The "privilege" of dining with The Donald is not serendipity.

(38,557 posts)but it makes him look even more ridiculous.
There isn't anyone following this that believe TFG isn't aware of his most ardent supporters. He's too much of a narcissist to not be following the folks that bow down before him.

(32,083 posts)He has plead ignorance so frequently that nobody even takes it seriously anymore. Unfortunately, the media take it as a cue to just move on. Granted, it's not like they're ever going to get an honest answer from Trump or his toadies.

David Duke (KKK Grand Master who failed at Presidential Run in 1988)
https://www.cnn.com/2016/02/28/politics/donald-trump-white-supremacists
Despite what he said Sunday, Trump apparently did know Duke in 2000 citing him, as well as Pat Buchanan and Lenora Fulani in a statement that year explaining why he had decided to end his brief flirtation with a Reform Party presidential campaign.
The Reform Party now includes a Klansman, Mr. Duke, a neo-Nazi, Mr. Buchanan, and a communist, Ms. Fulani. This is not company I wish to keep, Trump said in a statement reported then by The New York Times.
He had also indicated he knew of Duke during a Friday press conference, when he was asked similar questions and said: David Duke endorsed me? OK, all right. I disavow, OK?

(1,296 posts)Ye said in his video debrief that Trump was angry.
When Trump started basically screaming at me at the table telling me I was going to lose, I mean, has that ever worked for anyone in history? the rapper said. Im like hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on, Trump. Youre talkin to Ye.

What's sad: Did this dinner happen on Thanksgiving? Don't any of these people have families that want to spend a holiday with them?
GoCubsGo
(32,083 posts)I'm sure his attendance was purely opportunism. I'm betting Fuentes' family probably doesn't want him around.
Noel Casler, who worked with Trump on "The Apprentice," said on Twitter the Nazi podcast boys were invited because Trump is trying to "out extreme" Ron DeKKKlantis. I think this probably the most accurate explanation. DeSantis is stealing attention away from him, and he HATES that (and he also apparently hates DeSantis, himself.) He wants to keep those two dregs of humanity in his court. What better time to invite them to a dinner than one that will draw more attention from the media?
David__77
(23,402 posts)DeSantis certainly cannot compete when it comes to that. The fascists anti-Semites and white supremacists know in their bones that Trump is their guy while they know DeSantis is not.

(13,180 posts)Trump just said he didn't know who Fuentes was. And the media is in mere guilt-by-association trope mode, so they don't notice the true headline. "Trump doesn't disavow white nationalist leader after dining with him"
In all this mess, no one seems to notice that Trump didn't say, "I didn't know who Fuentes was, and if I did, I wouldn't have had dinner with him." That leaves Fuentes's followers thinking Trump is into them. And he probably is. He needs his little brown shirted broken unit corps to stand down and stand by.
David__77
(23,402 posts)And that is exemplary of why he is overwhelming favorite to win nomination.
He can be stopped, yes- the cost would be quite high, including potentially the destruction of the Republican Party.

This is so sick, but the country doesnt care. Only thing it might matter is the GOP is looking for a reason to dump him and they might add this to the pile of reasons.
