Unlike the last time when Republicans used bogus hearings to smear a Democratic presidential candidate, Dems are prepared to punch back. Its not Hunter Bidens scalp they want. Rather, the House GOP caucus is poised to launch a two-year crusade to tarnish President Joe Bidens characterand lower his poll numbersjust like they did with Hillary Clinton and the Benghazi hearings prior to her 2016 candidacy.
But things are different this time aroundDemocrats arent going to assume that voters can see through the partisan bluster, and are mounting a war room operation outside the White House. The Congressional Integrity Project (a pointed moniker, to be sure) will try to fend off the Republican barrage, and go on the offensive in the information war.
The existence of the newly revamped group, first reported by Politico, is an effort to mount a 21st-century war room with a response team that can expose the political intentions behind the investigations targeting the White House, says Leslie Dach, a senior adviser to the CIP, who is working with founder Kyle Herrig and longtime political activist Brad Woodhouse. All three have deep Democratic Party ties.
This is a battle over narratives, and we believe we can win that war, says Dach. Theyre (the GOP) saying it in plain English, theyre trying to hurt Joe Biden. Its the Trump playbook of personal attacks.
The group is funded by independent donors and foundations, and as a C-4 designated group, it does not disclose its donors. While independent of the White House, it is in close touch with Biden aides.

(10,177 posts)As far as I can tell, that particular "fact" has never been established. The original New York Post article that set off this whole "scandal" was full of unsubstantiated allegations and half-truths. Two years later CBS' investigative piece concluded the "contents" on the hard drive apparently belonged to Hunter Biden. Still, many contend the files were "planted by Russian hackers," and the laptop did not belong to Biden.
Ownership of the actual machine in the FBI's possession is key. Every Apple device I've ever owned required me to register it before using it. Ownership of this laptop, allegedly dropped off by Hunter Biden at a blind man's computer repair shop and never retrieved, should be quite easy to establish.

(17,235 posts)My first thought was whoever had possession of the laptops were now busy grinding the serial numbers off.
Was one report there was 2, but we only hear RWNJs talking about "Hunter's laptop" implying one.

Hopefully this group has figured out how to outdo that technique. It was lies that gave the House to Republicans. Democrats went about their campaigns as if that were not true. Democrats need to get away from their donors dictating the strategy.

(9,670 posts)Every subpoena, every Congressional hearing, every sentence (that Trump pardoned) claiming that it was all nothing more than a political witchhunt, partisan politics, personal, blah, blah, blah.
Now these same people want to march us in front of their own committees, their own courtrooms, without a self-aware bone in their bodies. Wouldn't their people shriek and yell if we flipped them the bird, walked away, citing the precedent of their own deflections?
It never ceases to amaze me how otherwise coherent people could so easily be trained to think that 2 similar situations are dissimilar because of the party one is affilated with.
