But since I'm dragged down (and I was in finding out what this is about), I'll toss in my own wonder at Coniff's comment that slapping an American soldier gave him a whole new view of Gen. Patton.

At least I HOPE he was merely being sarcastic. It's raw meat for everyone who wants to use it to smear him, though. No one bothers to give Coniff the attention Haberman gets because he's small potatoes. (Yet here his trolling for attention shows up? )

Seriously, shouldn't this guy have the same responsibility as Haberman to use enough words to make sure people couldn't take anything but the exact meaning intended? Also to not use his little voice for opportunistic trashing to draw some Haberman attention to himself?

Btw, DOES Coniff know about Patton's implacable racism and antisemitism that were hard-core even for the 1940s? Patton could have been one of Hitler's generals except for an accident of birth.

Actually, I think both claiming that Coniff must have known that and that he didn't would risk libeling him. He laid himself open to his own brand of malice both directions.
