Yes, the long drawn out public fight should be very interesting and at least they'll be attacking one another instead of Democrats and the Biden administration.

and offer to not do certain things and essentially power share with the GOP holding the stronger end of the bargain

He would never do it because the base might literally murder him.

Democrats could--in theory--strategically aid a GOP contender--by either not showing up or voting "present," which would lower the threshold needed to reach a majority, even w/o voting "affirmatively" for that person. Democrats could in theory also cast affirmative votes.

Not saying that can or should happen, but these are tools in our leadership's arsenal.
