(6,089 posts)Gerrymandering is an abomination to our election system, striking God knows how many voters votes from even counting. We should be calling it voter fraud all the time with our loudest voices because that is exactly what it is.

(7,290 posts)Were not supposed to acknowledge that.
There is a whole post with 80 or so replies complaining about CA and NY didnt gerrymander well enough and it supposedly cost us the House.
Not to mention, words, including fraud, have meanings, or at least theyre supposed to. Im not sure when we started thinking we could just define words to mean whatever we want them to.

Truly its a fucking unfair mess.
Some courts ruled to use obviously rigged maps some courts tossed maps out.
If there was truly 'equal protection' under the law everyone would have the same ability to vote, to have their vote counted and their vote would have the same power as anyone elses vote.
It was done this way to game the system and it is still working as designed.

(6,690 posts)The whole state is a bastion of rw fucks in charge of everything. The Voting Rights Act is the only thing that will change this. Don't hold your breath.

(7,290 posts)uses an independent commission, which Im completely in favor of. My point was that the thread in question is complaining about the independent commission, saying that it should have gerrymandered more in favor of Dems.
So it seems that to some, gerrymandering in favor of the GOP ia fraud, yet doing it in favor of Democrats is great and should be supported.
If gerrymandering is fraud when one side does it (and I dont believe it is), then its fraud when the other side does it as well.

(11,308 posts)like 'fraud' fairly loosely. And the lack of critical thinking ...
Similarly, changing the rules - if done by legal means - might be fairly criticized as attempts to disenfranchise and 'undemocratic' in intent - but it is NOT cheating. (unless you insist on the right to choose your own definition for whatever words you chose spew about)

and, again, 100% legal - and endorsed by the courts - the only problem being that the players have gotten ridiculously good at the game. Damn things like data and computers ...

Calling it fraud is denying the validity of our elections. I think that is dangerous to our democracy.
Calling it unfair and something that must be addressed seems reasonable.
When the GOP says the mail-in voting was fraud because it shouldn't be allowed, I tell them that rules should have been, and often were, addressed before the election.
When the GOP says drop boxes are fraud because they should never be allowed, I say the rule should have been, and may actually have been, contested already and that the result should be lived with until next time it is addressed.

Therefore - inherently, and by definition - not 'fraud.'
