This is a massive conspiracy. You have Trump, many of his lawyers, White House Staff, outside advisors, dozens of fake electors, politicians, who were all involved in the attempted coup. It will be interesting to see how they prosecute this massive case.

I think they're afraid of fully confronting the coup. Reminds me of the bankers' coup against FDR, when they tried to recruit General Smedley Butler* as figurehead, and which got whitewashed in the Congressional investigation.

I like your viewpoint that the oligarchy is using Trump as a fall guy, reinforced by Cheney's insistence on focusing the J6 report on Trump, and not on the broader hidden levers of power (who removed the panic systems? Why did DoD delay help?). A lot of the committee is pissed.

The GOP said it will no longer protect Trump. And offered him up.
Presidents and ex-presidents are typically protected at all costs.

In return the DOJ will not go after sitting members of congress, FBI, SS, Cap Police, DOD.

I certainly think it is possible that the DOJ does not wish to bring charges against
half of the sitting members of congress.

Or expose its own guilty parties in the FBI and DOJ.

The SS apparently wields a great deal of power and no one touches them.

The DOJ does not wish to take on the Pentagon either which initially lied and covered up
the involvement of Mike Flynn's brother Charles in 1/6. And in fact then promoted Charles but
did get him out of DC.

Decisions and deals were made at the highest levels of power.
We may see a few token arrests or charges.

But will all the high level guilty parties be brought to justice?
Most likely not.
