Cochise County (Arizona) Board of Supervisors vote to postpone vote certification

Last edited Mon Nov 28, 2022, 02:54 PM - Edit history (1)

In a special session of the Cochise County Board of Supervisors Monday morning, the three-person board voted to postpone certifying the election until the end of the week.

The motion on the floor was to table the certification vote for the remainder of the week—until Friday, Dec. 2. The state canvass of the general election takes place on Monday, Dec. 5.

Supervisor Ann English (D2) was the sole 'no' vote on the board, making the argument against postponing the vote certification further. Supervisors Tom Crosby, (D1) and Peggy Judd (D3) voted for postponing the vote.

Won’t this favor a lot of Dems if their vote count is not included in the total?

They simply will not be counted in the totals. This election, Cochise voted heavy repug so... You have to wonder how the people there will feel about having their votes tossed by their own leaders. I suspect many will not be happy about it.

Could it flip the state senate? Albeit I imagine a judge will order the certification eventually, but hypothetically I wonder how it effects the overall results.

Yeah I expect there to be a court order after Katie Hobbs sues to get the votes certified. But my goodness that's nuts.

But redistricting has included some red areas. It was blue because it extended up to Tucson in the past.

Fine to be from a conservative area (I have experience with that as well). Not fine for county to just obstruct and delay when the opposition wins.

I went from being represented by David Bonior in Michigan to Henry Hyde in Illinois and, at the time, neither county pulled this crap.

If so that one "no" voter may become the most hated person in America for this. It will definitely set an extremely dangerous precedent if it does.

And the laws are clear, don't certify and the votes don't get added to the totals. I can't wait to see how the voters feel about losing their vote
