But everyone know it, just like the sidearms on armored truck guards.
They are bait weapons and have their real ones concealed.

At least I was amused.

(31,147 posts)i have a theory that a significant number of these people carrying openly in places where no gun should be, are actually itching to use those guns. in reality it's hard for me to even imagine what would prompt the guy in the picture to do this.
Probatim
(3,222 posts)While I agree with your perception of why they carry guns, I was itching for a fight and thought laughing at him for his gun would scare him more.
i am glad you did. turn his face red, maybe he thinks twice about whether it's really so important to be strutting around with a loaded weapon.

(3,222 posts)I live in a smallish borough that is pretty homogeneous (i.e., white middle class) and where crime is minimal - especially shootouts.
It would have been better for him to stay home and "clean his gun" than shop on a Sunday morning with it.

(129,793 posts)young man in the produce section, wearing shorts, t-shirt and flip flops, with a huge pistol on his hip. (for some reason, the combination of the flip flops and the big pistol just cracked me up.) I walked over to him, and in a very concerned voice asked, "Are you afraid that the tomatoes are going to attack you?"
He grunted at me and walked off. That was several years ago, pre-magat. I would not do that today.

Later I thought of Johnny Dangerously and his 88 Magnum.
I kept my mouth shut.

(22,240 posts)I hate this kind of thing as much as you do, and I'm very happy to live where I don't have to see people walking around armed like this. But I'm afraid that reporting this to police in a stateide where it's fully legal (Texas comes to mind) would get one of the following responses:
1.The cops would laugh in your face.
OR
2. They'd get pissed off at you for what they would view as "wasting their time."
I don't think it would be worth it. Ymmv.

(23,329 posts)What's to prevent someone stabbing him in the neck, taking HIS WEAPON, a weapon that shouldn't be there in the first place, and killing everyone within sight?
Nothing, if someone wanted to do such a thing. How convenient for such a devious mind. They didn't even have to provide the weapon or the ammo.

(31,744 posts)Grab the strap from behind, give it a quick pull to put him on the ground and then step over him. How's he going to fire a weapon with his 200 lb ass on top of it behind his back?
If he hadnt killed me I'd claim that I lost my balance and was so lucky he was there to grab on to because I could've broken a hip.
Then I'd take his place in line while his partner may or may not help him up off the floor. I imagine she's either afraid of him or embarrassed.

(24,906 posts)is to walk up behind him and touch a toy gun to the back of his head and yell "Bang! Youre dead" then tell him to re-think the idiocy of what he is doing.
He might as well be wearing a target on his back.

(8,739 posts)Is he a mass murder, pretending to be a typical law abiding, AR-15 toting, white supremacist jackass?
Or is he just looking for the right situation to set him off, so he can justify killing a whole bunch of people? Or is he just so effin' insecure that he needs to carry an assault rifle to feel safe?
Or does he enjoy making other people feel afraid?
The fact is we don't know; except for the last one...we can be sure it makes other people fear for their lives, and I'm sure he likes that.

(983 posts)Its upside down. Were he left handed, he would pull it around by the barrel and the trigger and magazine would be on top. If hes right handed, hed strangle himself trying to bring it to bear. And it would still be upside down.
This guy is a moron. He doesnt even rise to the level of poseur. Hes a totally incompetent know-nothing. If that thing is loaded, hes a considerable danger to himself and everyone within range.
Calling the police to have a menace removed would be a public service of the highest order.
As the old saying goes, No one is ever a complete failure. They can always serve as a bad example.

On the other hand I guess we have to accept the guy in the meme as wearing his folk dress. I think it needs a special name, I nominate : coprophagy.
