Federal Trade Commission asks for more details on Kroger's $25B acquisition of Albertsons

Kroger Co.'s regulatory skirmish over its $25 billion acquisition of rival Alberstons Cos. continues to amplify.

On Tuesday, the Cincinnati-based grocery giant announced the Federal Trade Commission is seeking additional information about the deal as part of the regulatory review process. This means regulators will now have more time to vet the deal for potential antitrust issues.

The release did not elaborate on what additional information regulators are seeking from Kroger.

In a statement, Kroger officials said: "We will continue to work cooperatively with the Federal Trade Commission as it conducts its review of the merger, including developing a thoughtful divestiture plan."

Losing products I used to like to the Kroger brands.

I hope the FTC can shut this down. We can't have low prices and more selection if only one company owns all the local groceries.
