Since 1934, every president, Democrat and Republican, has lost at least one senator in midterms

Jacob Rubashkin @JacobRubashkin 57m
In 1934, no Democratic senators lost re-election. But since 1934, every president, Democrat and Republican, has seen at least one senator from their party lose re-election in every single midterm cycle. Biden becomes the first president since FDR not to lose a single senator.

who YES, GAINED a Senate seat!!!!

Frankly, our tiny loss of the House was due to GOP Gerrymandering--
if not for that, we would have held the House also!!

and no doubt, will regain it in 2024---
as the House GOP will NO DOUBT spend the next 2 years pissing off the voters...

In 1980, after Reagan's election, there was a re-alignment in favor of the Republicans, after the Democratic Party had been dominant for roughly 40 years. I've read that our politics are on a 40-year cycle. We're due for another major change, I hope.

Hard to say. The GOP back then was not the conservative party however. It seems like things kinda ended up aligning toward the middle overall from 1880-1932.
There were conservatives in both parties. The progressives in the first decade of the 20th Century were GOP.. Hoover turned alot of people off. There were the "gilded/trust baby Republicans too". The Democrats tended to be rural and southern.

It's really hard to say.

every so often. I guess it has a lot to do with the indies and what their preferences at any given time. Both parties vie to win the folks in the middle, and the party that correctly identifies that group's desires is usually the victor. It's those swings of opinion that make politics interesting.
