But, he wants privacy for his family? This after he made fun of Paul Pelosi? Not a chance! But yet, we Dems will graciously do so. I hope she gets the help she needs.

As it stands, the parents can select the counselors who fit their needs and not the child's needs.
At age 14, the parents might also have the right to see all of their child's discussions with counselors.
I'm not sure how it is in Texas, which is a pretty freedumb-driven state, but many start privacy at age 16.

who include school teachers and psychologists, who may find out about abuse of vulnerable people (such as a child or elderly person or disabled person) in the course of their work.
As the owner of a preschool, my daughter is a mandated reporter, and had the unpleasant duty to report switch-marks on the legs of one of the toddlers in her care to Child Protective Services.
Texas is unlikely to hold the same views on child protection the stuff weve heard this year alone about the treatment of pregnant and transgender children and adolescents is pretty scary.
Surely a young teen who self-harms needs help. I very much hope she gets it.

(182,830 posts)Police and medical personnel were called to the Texas home of Sen. Ted Cruz Tuesday night after reports of a 14-year-old girl at the property suffering from self-inflicted stab wounds to her arms.
The teen was taken to the hospital shortly after. Its unclear who the girl wasthough Cruz does have two daughters: Catherine, 11, and Caroline, 14.
In a response to The Daily Beast, a representative for his office said: This is a family matter, and thankfully their daughter is OK.
There were no serious injuries, the representative said.

(86,647 posts)Heaven knows what the mother is like! Staying married to the heap of smoldering fecal matter that she is, one can only wonder at her personality and child rearing methods too.
Any of their kids stand a good chance of mental and emotional scarring from exposure to those two toxic cads.

(1,996 posts)Isn't that what people like Cruz say after a mass shooting? In this case though, I am serious. I hope she gets the care and help she needs, she cannot help that her father is a despicable man.

(2,390 posts)I always thought this video shows some damaged dynamic between the two of them. Maybe she was mad at him in the moment but her facial expressions, body language, and vocalizations indicate something much deeper going on. I can't imagine what it must be like growing up in that home with that vile man.

(2,606 posts) For most who do it, cutting or other self-harm is an attempt to interrupt strong emotions and pressures that seem impossible to tolerate. It can be related to broader emotional issues that need attention. Most of the time, it's not a suicide attempt.
This young lady needs help. Lets hope her father is mature enough to help her.

(6,855 posts)This might be a full on suicide attempt if there was bleeding enough to result in hospitalization. Poor little kid.

Look at who and what they are.
I hope she gets help from someone who wants to help her, not her father's political career.

For me, kids are off limits......Just my feelings.
I hope she's okay. I'm currently teaching high school and I have a couple of great students with horrible parents. I've reminded these kids they'll be 18 shortly (most of them are 17) and they'll have more control over their lives.
Bettie
(16,110 posts)but it is probable that they won't allow real help.
Her parents' income stream relies on them being loudly hateful and bigoted.
And I would bet everything I own that Ted loves that more than he does his family.
