1. No more Medicare Advantage ads.
2. No more breathless speculation about the Georgia run-off.

(115,735 posts)December 7 is the end of the open enrollment period during which you can change plans, but if you become eligible for Medicare after that, they can still advertise and sell you a new policy. The intensity will decrease but they won't disappear altogether.
Political speculation will never end, and the ads will be starting to heat up again next spring for primaries beginning in January 2024, in states to be determined.
None of it will ever go away. Enjoy the brief hiatus while you watch Christmas ads for expensive cars with bows on top.

(65,076 posts)Right now, more than 300,000 people turn 65 every month.
That's too big an audience for advertisers to ignore.
Agree on the political side, too. Issue ads never go away.

(32,086 posts)No more freaking campaign ads. The ones the Walker campaign and their supporters were running were beyond disgusting.

(1,789 posts)The one with the fictional "Martha" with the big glasses who is cranky and refuses to call the number. The unforgettable part is that they made a puppet version of the same commercial, same sound track and all. It made me wonder if the actor gets reduced royalties since her role was relegated to voice over work.
On edit: Where the hell were the puppet versions of JJ Walker, Joe Namath and William Shatner?

(10,685 posts)It's horrible to older people. Never saw the puppet. Probably to screw the actress over financially
Ocelot II
(115,735 posts)cranky, argumentative, ignorant and confused. It's supposed to be funny, but making fun of old people isn't funny, as those who are not yet old (but will be someday if they're lucky) will eventually find out.

(10,685 posts)It's toned down a lot. There may have been complaints or focus group complaints, because I believe it's turning off viewers. They even make her look like a crazy woman. What older person is going to listen about that product?

(19,067 posts)I am totally done with TV's election night coverage. Last night was a no drama race, it was obvious from the very start that Warnock was doing better than he needed to do across the board. The networks need their horse race, last night was an extreme example of them downplaying the obvious to keep people's anxieties flowing and keep them tuned in.
I tuned out in November, and then last night I watched a little bit and realized why I had tuned out. Warnock was the favorite and when the votes started getting counted it was obvious he was doing better than in November. The pros online were calling it when the networks were still screaming, 'Too close to call" and playing it up like this "could go until tomorrow." It's unnecessary, and you saw the results of it on this website all evening, good people panicking because Kornecki is paid to make everyone anxious. There were dozens of panicking threads and posts that were really just good people venting and needing some reassurance, but it was all unnecessary and it was all because the media wanted eyes on them.
Warnock won by 3 points. I honestly thought he'd win by closer to 5 points. But 3 points in this environment is a comfortable drama free win. And there were very few surprises last night. If the networks were being honest rather than wanting to play both siderism, they would have started saying things like, "Warnock is outperforming November almost everywhere, there's simply no way he loses unless something dramatically changes." They all saw that with 10% of the vote in, but they would then maybe hint at that, but them counter it with, "But...Walker is outperforming in Podunk Racistville by 3 votes..."
They've taken it to an artform, the networks and their emotional manipulation. It's harmful to society. I'd rather the call it like they see it. If the Rep is obviously going to win, say so. If the Dem is, say so. If it's really a too close to call race, those should be the exception.

(9,020 posts)It's so obvious they are trying to trick people, specifically older, elderly people, into signing up for an Advantage plan, by appealing to "more money in your pocket!" People think it's actually Medicare, when MA is private companies leeching off of Medicare.
William Shatner, Joe Namath....I lose respect for any famous person that prostitutes themselves to that ravenous industry.

(146,317 posts)Walker is a black man. Fox thinks that all white women are stupid, but that's OK if they're deemed to be attractive. But, Fox is being careful not to present a stupid black man as a spokesperson. Walker will not get a job at Fox News.
