Florida is a few densely populated areas and a lot of rural areas.

According to the articles covering this, he normally kept the gun in his pocket and he had a concealed weapons permit.

...it's about 0.3 higher. Same ballpark for sure. (CA: 5.6. FL: 5.9)
Much better than my state. Illinois is over 9.5.
