(9,081 posts)Anyone who doesn't believe trading a man called "The Merchant of Death" for a basketabll player during a war was a prudent decision is now just like Trump.
Usual and expected move, Cotton.

(8,387 posts)It's a common technique to increase polarization and conflict.
You start your argument with "While I realize that pedophiles and criminals will disagree with me, I believe (insert position here)."
Then, anyone who does not completely agree with you on the point, or may have a somewhat different perspective, is a self-identifying pedophile or criminal.
There are lots of examples of this at DU.
For example, calling anyone who had reservations about Michael Avenatti a troll:
There were red flags about Avenatti from the get-go, but some were more interested in accusing others than digging into the facts of Tully's coffee, his financial issues with former partners, etc.
Fair minds do not reflexively accuse people with differing opinions of acting in bad faith.
But there are self-proclaimed "troll detectors" who always seem to know the motivations of others.
So, it's a passive-aggressive way of making personal accusations against other people on DU.

(9,081 posts)Sometimes it feels like paparazzi following.
It's like a squadron of 1940s Finn Ops got lost in time only to be unleashed onto the web.

And I will continue to fight. Don't like it? Alert.
And isn't there a rule against personal callouts here?

(9,081 posts)I think it is the self-styled inquisitors who drive more people from the party than those who offer mild criticism of things.
But that's just how my socialization works. I can take criticism. The religious hunters of blasphemy, however, have ever been unbearable.

(35,354 posts)searched Paul Whalen this morning, he was given a Bad Conduct Discharge from the Marines on
multiple charges of larceny. I don't think he should be held in Russia either, but he committed what
would be a felony in a civilian court.

Isn't CBD more or less legal in much of the U.S.?
I wonder how foreign tourism to Russia is these days? Why would anybody from the civilized world want to risk going there and exposing themselves to the whims and draconian "laws" of an autocratic war criminal and his toadies who crave leverage over their adversaries?

(1,897 posts)Paul Whelan was dishonorably discharged from the military.
Paul Whelan was detained before President Biden was even elected.
Paul Whelans family, while dad their loved one is still detained, praised the Biden Administration for bringing Brittany Griner home.
Not that Im glad hes detained or that he deserves it, but if being critical of releasing one without the other, I cant help but think if there happens to be racist/sexist undertones to it.

(32,086 posts)it's their "Biden can do no right" affliction. Had Trump or Dumbya or some other GOPer made this deal, they'd be calling for ticker tape parade, and they wouldn't shut up about it for months. But instead, we're getting Biden Derangement Syndrome at its finest.
