Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsIs Sinema still going to caucus with the Democrats?
I assume she will do so just like Independents Bernie Sanders and Angus King.
That would mean the Dems still have a 51-49 majority.

(3,463 posts)If she doesn't, then it's time to straight-up expel her from anything related to the Democratic caucus.
And at minimum, her committee positions should be significantly curtailed.
Call her bluff, force her hand.
And if she wants to go full-on Manchurian Candidate?
Well, good luck in the Republican primary, Senator.
I hear they're really open to "I was recently a Democratic Party member" candidates down there in Kari-Lake-town.
I'm sure it will go well.
May the odds be ever in your favor.

(92,490 posts)Schumer strategically is not dumb, and will NOT "significantly curtail her committee positions. It would be counter productive for the next two years, especially in regard to getting as many judicial appointments through.
2024 will be critical

(3,463 posts)Everybody knew she was a con.
This isn't complicated.
Appease her and she will play you, and then she will betray you when it suits her.
Force her hand, and.consign her to irrelevance if she wants to continue this charade.
AZ Republicans will *not* line up behind her.
So if she wants *any* role going forward, she is *entirely* dependent on Chuck Schumer.
Let's make that point, and make it aggressively.
Joe Manchin is watching.
And you bet your ass he's calculating his next move based on how Sinema's bullshit is received.
The SCOTUS is currently deciding whether to gut American democracy ... and we're still appeasing those who stab us in the back???
Stop playing like this is a game.

(92,490 posts)Sinema and Manchin have pretty consistently voted for Biden's judicial nominations
Her changing to independent will not change a thing politically for us in the Senate
I don't think the SC will allow the "independent state legislature theory.
If they did that, it would be equivalent to a Civil War, where every state's legislature would determine the outcome of federal elections, and it wouldn't just be red states
The country and democracy would essentially be gone.
I don't think that would happen, and the final ruling will be 6-3 against the independent state legislature garbage

(3,463 posts)The final ruling on Moore v Harper will be 5-to-4 -- in favor of the North Carolina Republican fascists.
The language will be "first round" -- moderated in appearance, but laced with poison that can be exploited in subsequent rounds.
And those subsequent rounds *will* come. As quickly as situations allow.
You are fiddling as the Titanic sinks.
The iceberg has already hit.
They know it, why don't you?
Wake up.

(92,490 posts)the Democratic nominee by either voting third arty or not voting
In every critical swing state Hillary lost by less than 1%, while Jill Stein received 1% of the vote in those critical swing states. It didnt take much

(3,463 posts)Donald Trump's "margin of victory" was -3,000,000 votes.
Negative.
The reason he weaseled his way in was because targeted voter suppression WORKS when you're dealing with a weighted-vote system (the "Electoral College" that allows some votes to count more than others.
And for god's sake, let's not forget the criminal SCOTUS ruling in Bush v Gore that *literally* stole the 2000 election for the losing candidate, George W Bush.
Where the hell was the outrage then?
Where was it in 2016?
Where is it now?
Oh wait-- I'm sure there's some great Grand Strategy hiding back there somewhere.
Right behind the white flags that have been waved for 20 years of this bullshit.
2022 was a sign of life -- the public *WILL NOT* take this anymore.
But dear god, what is it going to take to recognize the urgency of this situation when we are betrayed by false friends who have openly sold us out?
Enough.
I don't just want faint hope -- I want revenge, I want real consequences.
Let's put a price on dishonor.
Let's see what it looks like when turning your back on the betrayed majority has an actual cost.
Enough of apologetics.

(7,870 posts)pissed because no Arizona Democrat running for office wanted her anywhere near their campaigns..she's a pariah in her state and pretty much nationwide..if she thinks independents are going to embrace a vengeful attention grabbing brat she's wrong..the independent voters broke for Democrats...Ruben Gallego's run for Sinema's senate seat starts today, and he will kick her ass in a statewide election..

(7,447 posts)She couldn't play her same role with 51 votes so she artificially creates a situation where there are now 50 votes again for Democrats but since she doesn't have the ovaries to caucus with Republicans it still leaves her importance reduced.
Her only role now is organizational at the start then disappears after.
JohnSJ
