I feel so bad for the RW media that had plagued the AM band for the last 30 years.

(10,930 posts)Am radio is the only way I can get ball games in the car. I live fast enough north that the satellites are low on the horizon, and tall trees will block the signal. Tried Sirius, doesn't work well for me.

(1,866 posts)The one true foil to AM hate radio throughout my adult life. Keeps us sane when shits like Limbaugh and Savage spew what they do.

gave local news, especially about things like approaching tornadoes. For at least a couple of decades, since Sinclair (or is that tv stations? ) has been buying them up, they dont do anything of a public service any more, just play prerecorded programs on a loop. Which is just sad.

(65,277 posts)Two major stations here in Chicago, both on max power, clear channel frequencies.
At least one of them does an HD simulcast, and both stream on Twitch. So, there are alternatives, but a huge chunk of their audience is still listening on AM.
I'm one of them. They don't simulcast on Sirius

(94,804 posts)FWIW - I haven't listened to AM radio in years; nor do I have Sirius. I have music and podcasts on my phone, and get my traffic data in Apple Maps.

(16,373 posts)I had no electricity, no cable n my iPhone had no service. I sat in my car for 15 minutes at a time cooling off w/ the a/c on n the local AM station giving me local information as we were completely cut off. With all the gadgets n tech, if youre not able to access any of them, its not a good feeling.
