(572 posts)...because there something wonderful about seeing someone who truly deserves this kind of honor receive it. That beautiful portrait along with the words of tribute from a former political rival made the occasion even more special. This great American, who happens to be a woman, is a historic figure who'll be an inspiration to generations to come, and certainly for girls.

(24,304 posts)In the painting it sort of looks like Nancy took that gavel and busted a hole in the wall to get in there, which on some level, would be appropriate.

(1,690 posts)Have been more proud of her, when she tore up that national disgraces load of bullshit paper. We have been so lucky to have her in congress. What a treasure.

(36,865 posts)EDIT: It appears to be a painting depicting when she became speaker in 2007. Example of what she looked like:

(1,654 posts)My friend for a number of years was saying she should retire and enjoy her grandchildren. I kept saying not yet. She's too damn good getting things done. She's the best vote counter the Dems ever had. She's so smart she doesn't have to act dumb to get the job done.
