Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsNeal Katyal makes an interesting point about Republicans derailing the DOJ investigation.
They know that the January 6th Committee will be disbanded but Katyal said that the Republicans would also attempt to derail the DOJ by not funding them, etc.
He was on one of the talk shows last night and he thought the DOJ might charge Trump with the theft of the documents before the Republicans take over the House. Otherwise, they might attempt to dismantle the entire investigation.
It was an interesting comment coming from a very bright lawyer.

(11,032 posts)Look up Janus vs AFSCME. And his statements on Gorsuch and Kavanagh are pretty easy to find.

Not saying this was the case, but still, something to consider...

(4,913 posts)How can you defund the DOJ? That would affect many investigations across the country, not just the J6 investigation. Garland can always find a way to fund the investigations.

DOJ funding is a package bill. They can't touch special counsel funding. There's really nothing they can do to stop those investigations.
I wish he would stop with these fearmongering alarms, whatever his legal qualifications.

(7,335 posts)I suspect DOJ will claim that none of their charging decisions will take account of any external political factors. I get why, but that is totally unrealistic, IMO. Realistically, they have THIS YEAR to do something or not.
