I'm talking about state's measures for gun safety here.
Do we have to ask the administrators before discussing the issue from the standpoint of one state's laws?
Just a question. I won't argue (I'm too old and crusty).

(63,912 posts)legislative efforts, as per the NYT article or OP Ed I read recently. The reality is that restricting this issue entirely to another subthread will diminish open debate on DU. It shouldn't be hashed out in a subthread space if the issue has a national consequence.

(33,587 posts)when there is major news about them. I think the mods allow some latitude when it is a breaking story, like a SCOTUS ruling, or a mass shooting. But not the usual ongoing debate about guns.

(63,912 posts)An idea isn't the same as a loaded gun (except metaphorically). There are ramifications but this is an idea, i.e. insurance. Why not just have the pros and cons of the legislative idea?

(33,587 posts)even here on DU there are people who are fervently pro 2nd Amendment and anti-gun control.
It's why those topics are relegated to their own forums.

(18,663 posts)In that group. By little I mean none. There have been several major legislations on ballots this year but there were not mentioned in the Activism group.
There was some discussion in the "gungeon" but that also is less frequent than in the past.

(50,362 posts)News stories (and related content) from reputable mainstream sources about efforts to strengthen or weaken gun control legislation in any jurisdiction in the United States, national news stories (and related content) from reputable mainstream sources about high-profile gun crimes, and viral political content from social media or blogs that would likely be of interest to a large majority of DU members are permitted under normal circumstances.
Local stories about gun crime and "gun porn" threads showing pictures of guns or discussing the merits of various firearms are not permitted under normal circumstances and should be posted in the Gun Control and RKBA Group.
Open discussion of guns is permitted during very high-profile news events which are heavily covered across all newsmedia.

(50,362 posts)that's under the Group's control.

(36,309 posts)As discussion of gun control laws, proposed or active, is essentially prohibited in the group, allowing such in the GD forum may be productive.
Spazito
(50,362 posts)that they change the SOP to allow what you want instead of what they currently have in place.
Kaleva
(36,309 posts)but you already pointed out that discussion of control measures is allowed in GD and I said that would be a plus as then people can point out flaws in the laws or proposed legislation and why they may not work. You can't do that in the group .
