(3,050 posts)You vote with your mouse clicks. As many have pointed out dont feed the troll at twitter. He does not deserve your clicks. Take a screenshot of the tweet if you must would be the best option.

(4,250 posts)people could copy/paste the text rather than providing a link so that we end up giving that moron clicks.

I just now pulled this from Tom Tomorrow's birdcage. Took me a few seconds. Select, copy, paste.
And I don't even join twitter, I just read it off the web.
For videos and pics, type one descriptive sentence instead of a blank link. Is that so hard?
The posts which consist only of a teaser, then blank space and the phrase "Link to tweet" are annoying. It's rude. It wastes people's time and clicks. I appreciate the folks who take the trouble to quote the material or describe the vids. I thank them in advance.
Why does a democratic org depend so heavily on the services of a Bond villain? Don't give him extra clicks.

(4,250 posts)saying but I see posts all the time where the text is here along with the link. The clips/pics might be another thing but might be able to be sourced from somewhere else. I think more effort might be required but it would also be worth it. Besides it's not generally good policy to just blindly click on links. I'm just old school (actually prehistoric school) and I shy away from clicking on "blog type/opinion sites" links if I can (you never know when some clown is trying to cause problems) and e-mail attachments, unknown PDF file links etc.
I agree with the others here on DU who voice their dislike of people originating posts/making comments with only a couple of words (if that) and then just a link to click on.

(25,252 posts)those here that frequent Twitter and provide links to Tweets - contribute to this megalomaniac's fortune and more of his craziness.

(8,718 posts)It would be crazy to eliminate it from DU. The info available on Twitter is endless in every area. Shit, I can even follow Bolsonaro to see what shit hes up to.
We are NOT contributing to Elons fortune as he is losing huge ants of money on Twitter.
Also, Twitter has to do with who you follow and most posters are Democrats but I prefer to not limit myself to only people with the same opinions as mine.
If you have been reading the Twitter files you will see all the internet platforms have problems.

(4,250 posts)ton of crap. There is much that gets presented as fact that is false, things sloppily and/or misleadingly presented without necessary context, false attribution. bootstrapping speculation etc. You can literally post any phony thing you want on Twitter and tons of people will decry it and tons will swear it is Gospel. I don't find that a very helpful approach in trying to arrive at an informed, rational opinion on policy or events.

The hospital has much "frivolous" social media blocked, including Twitter. The Twitter-linked posts won't display.
I don't have an issue with Twitter being blocked-- some young folks are far too addicted to social media on their phones. I know of one facility losing tremendous productivity to that.
Come to think of it I can't recall the last time I got on that idiotic fluff site.

(32,645 posts)I don't care if somebody makes a screenshot of a tweet, and posts the screenshot. That's fine.
But the live links that create more traffic and more advertising $$ for Musk, that has to stop. DU shouldn't allow it.

(8,718 posts)Many of us dont want to have to go to a third site to post a picture - too time consuming. This is addressed earlier in this thread.
Elon is losing money, not making it. With 500 million tweets a day on Twitter, I dont think a few from DU will have a lasting effect.

(11,316 posts)for reasons that have been explained and explored. And not sure if there has ever been a (serious) call for it - either through mods or participants. I have noticed almost zero really noxious content migrating in this direction, and that's good enough in my books. The trustworthiness of the source has been debated, as far as hard news and/or opinion - but again that is on the DU member that is OPing or linking. And (mostly) they have a handle on whom they are following.
You're free to abandon the platform if you choose (as are others, if that is their choice) I personally was never there. But enough with the neighborhood scold and virtual signalling.
