Hard-hit Buffalo area braces for more snow; thaw in sight Wednesday

Buffalo braced Tuesday for more snow after a historic and brutal winter storm buried the region and left more than two dozen people dead.

Up to two more inches of snow could fall in parts of western New York through Tuesday, the National Weather Service said. Buffalo was under a winter weather advisory for 3-5 inches of lake-effect snow in some areas.

“This is not the end yet,” said Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz, calling the blizzard “the worst storm probably in our lifetime.”

The storm system, which began before Christmas, pounded Buffalo with as much as 49 inches of snow in recent days. Poloncarz confirmed the storm-related death toll in the county at 28 during a Tuesday press conference.

Been in SCali for close to 40 years, seen and played in snow maybe twice. I can't image what Buffalo and other states are going through. Serious hugs and prayers.

... about 9 months of the year! The other 3 months I wished I was somewhere else. But that's another story.

Sympathy for Buffalo, they seem to always get the worst of it. Maybe you guys don't know this, but another NY town gets even more snow than Buffalo - but it's so small you never heard of it. Old Forge, New York, deep in the Adirondack Mountains gets an average of 15 FEET of snow per year. Syracuse NY in the Finger Lakes isn't far behind - they average about 10 feet of snow per year.

We're always feeling sorry for Buffalo, but they only get about half the snow on average that falls in Old Forge every year.

Brrr, Stay warm everybody!

Don't know how reliable the source is. Surrounding areas average 60-70 or so. However, as the coldest areas of the state, theh are also the driest at 28 inches of rain/yr

Most of the state averages 35-45 inches/yr
