are a result of the F'n, murdering, orange TRAITOR** and pompeo handing Afghanistan to the taliban.
My deepest thanks to DU'er Bettie for putting it so succinctly.

(16,903 posts)Afghans made their choice, IMHO. And they made it early enough that left the US nothing more than time to get out of Dodge. Quickly. We are lucky we were able to get out roughly 150,000 souls over a 3 week period.

Afghan culture, including women, is not.
Very few women, percentagewise, intended to get college degrees. Far more did hope to better their lives, and those of their children, by working outside their homes. But that doesn't mean most approved the full extent of what Americans feel are their basic human rights. Reading about what they do want and believe in shows that most do not.
Truth is what it is. By far most really don't admire our culture, or at most want to take a shopping cart approach to it, incorporating a few things into their culture and firmly rejecting all the rest.

(33,345 posts)The Taliban won a guerilla war, abetted by Trump's Doha deal to free 5,000 Talibs, and the fecklessness of the Afghan Military and Govt. The populace had little choice but to accept the return to power of intolerant, ignorant Medievalists.
The Taliban could not be eliminated by the West's strategy. All we bought for our blood and treasure was 20 years of relative freedom for Afghan women.

(113,344 posts)You are thinking al-qaeda, which came out of the soviet invasion of Afghanistan, about 1988. President Carter had nothing to do with either, and reagan was not in office in 1998.

(2,816 posts)We funded the Mujahideen in 1979, I wasn't aware of the Taliban being a distinct more recent group. The Afgan communist government began educating girls the Mujahideen opposed educating women the Taliban are there successors with the same morals.

(90,714 posts)Trump arranged for 4 or 5,000Taliban fighters to be freed, made sure the next president would have to fulfill his agreement to withdraw our troops and aid workers.
Trump never forget it was Trump, and may he get absolutely everything he deserves including reincarnation as a cockroach.

(113,344 posts)taliban fighters. The sputtering and denial are sickening.
The insanity of these relics from the dark ages is almost beyond imagining.
