The current congressman, Thomas Suozzi, decided to run for NY Governor against Kathy Hochul, and lost in the primary. He would likely have been re-elected in the NY 3rd.

Yes, his campaign did opposition research and the MSM was alerted. It was largely ignored.

Given that district voted for the Repuke for Governor, it may not have made a difference.

Cook gave it solid R after redistricting. It's now Nassau County, which did not even vote for Chuck Schumer.

PVI is the balance in a neutral year. The polls/predictions expected something redder than neutral, but that doesn’t change the PVI.
