General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsThe surest way to insure that we accomplish NOTHING is to require that we not even
try until we are 100% certain that we have 100% of everything we might possibly need once we begin. That is a recipe for stagnation.
Of course, thoughtful planning and organization are needed, but virtually no undertaking has ever been risk-free. And, seeing that someone is willing to "stick their neck out" is sometimes enough to motivate unexpected others to join the fray. As the old song says: "Start me with ten who are stout-hearted men and I'll soon give you ten thousand more!"
An excuse not to act that is cut from the same cloth is, of course, "But it's never been done before!" Conservatives build their political careers on the pledge to never do anything for the first time. We have never before had to deal with the reality that we permitted an international adversary to place a career criminal---a thug--- in our White House. OF COURSE we will have to do some things we've never done before and without any "guarantee" that our first efforts to right the ship of state will be successful.
We don't KNOW what will happen if we try alternative X, Y or Z, but we know what will happen if we do nothing.

(1,996 posts)I think enough of us have looked the other way enough times. We have a justice system that is fair to ALL or we have nothing. I'm fast approaching 70 and would love nothing more than to see our nation "get it right" on something consequential before I leave this earth. But I am not going to hold my breath waiting.

Tfg, is a criminal empire. He's been doing this for a long time, and gotten away with it. He needs to be treated like any other citizen, and organized, criminal ring, and face the consequences of his actions along with his foot soldiers and enablers. He is 76, he's abominable and has damaged our democracy, and will destroy if not stopped.
Thanks, for your post.

(12,310 posts)I'm sick of the excuses for why we shouldn't, especially the "they have to have all the ducks perfectly lined up" excuse.

Well, I've had years of experience be placed at projects doing poorly in order to move them along. It's usually site management and its communication with the field supervision that are the culprits. Most of the resistance I received against my efforts was from those happy with the pace of their light workload and confident their incompetence was acceptable if not invisible. The most common retort was, "it's going the way it always has and it worked then, and you can't change it". If I got lucky the first pink slips were all that were required to inspire those remaining toward more productive efforts. The unfixable was when company "favorites" were allowed unquestioned authority beyond their level of competence. Still, to maintain the ship, dead weight must go. Backstabbing aplenty ensued on more than one occasion.

Our third is pulling our hair out.
The "other" third is cheering it on.
But, the "middle" third either sees nothing wrong with it or just does not want to deal with it.
These people give cover to the fascists here, just as they did in Germany in the early 1930s.
That has been the battle I have witnessed my entire 35+ years of adult life.
The people who really care about american democracy, and their fellow country men are just flat out numbered by the fascists and the people who just don't care either way.

(6,591 posts)Yes, & that applies to all of us, every American who wants to save our democracy.
I've found that most folks I interact with on social media haven't done anything, nothing out of the usual, the normal, other than complain on social media, which isn't really doing anything. It won't change anything.
Saving democracy isn't "some one else's job," it's OUR job. Yes, there are many actors who have a role to play but it's US, millions of Americans like us who care enough to take actions above & beyond what we've always done, that may be the most important & influential actor of all.

(14,564 posts)the people who want to see American democracy undone literally never sleep, there are more groups and organizations actively doing things to do make it happen than you can even try to count, and they throw a $hit ton money into it.
