I know Smith injured his knee but he should be well enough to travel by now.

(115,683 posts)and he doesn't have to give news conferences. Prosecutors normally don't and generally shouldn't, because they are not helpful. Whether he is or is not well enough to travel is up to him and his doctors and is none of our business. Just let him do his job.

(115,683 posts)Should grand jury proceedings be televised, too? Intelligence agency investigations? No, not everything is our business as it unfolds. The outcomes are our business; not everything during the process is.

(4,552 posts)Is not the same as stealing classified documents.
Not even on the same planet as far as comparisons go.

(115,683 posts)why should there be any such thing classified information at all? Shouldn't we know everything? I paid for all the stuff the CIA collected; why can't I have it?
And why can't I know about and see every bit of evidence that federal prosecutors have gathered in preparing their case, as soon as they have it? Why do I have to wait for the trial to see it?
in case that's necessary.

(1,766 posts)Some things that are government business you cannot know and WILL NEVER know.
Do you know all the ins and outs of where any given nuclear bomb is? You paid for those bombs, their maintenance and upkeep, their transport, and even the people handling all of that, but go ahead and try to find out where one is. I fricking DARE you to do it. Hint: If you aren't directly responsible for handling nuclear weapons, you have
ZERO right to know anything about their location. EVER.
And no, you do NOT have a right to know anything and everything going on with a criminal investigation. There's this thing called INNOCENT UNTIL PROVED GUILTY that you may not have any respect for, but which our laws respect a great deal. To protect the rights of anyone potentially accused of a crime, our legal system tends to stay quiet about details of an investigation. Some of it is to keep potential criminals from fleeing, but some of it is also because the public is NOT entitled to know every single suspect in an investigation, or all of the accusations against anybody, no matter who it is, until the state has established a case against someone that can withstand the scrutiny of a grand jury and a court of law. Until then, any potential suspects have a right to privacy and freedom from harassment. Don't like it? Well, too bad. The law doesn't give one hootin' holler what you like.
What is WRONG with you to think you're entitled to know things you have no business knowing?

(4,913 posts)I think it would be a good idea for him to let everyone know that he takes the largest, most important, investigation in our entire history seriously. It would be good to hear him say things like, No one is above the law. I will follow the the law without fear or favor.

(47,014 posts)Either his injury is more significant than we have been told.
Or there is another reason.

(47,014 posts)Once he hits DC, it will be the usual GOP three ring circus.
Maybe he wanted to getting a good running start away from the drama.
Or perhaps some other reason we have yet to figure out.
I have had serious spine, leg and ankle injuries requiring surgery and rehab.
So I know the time line for travel and activity level.
JS should have been able to travel sooner even with a serious knee injury.

Fractured spine and broken leg/ ankle necessitating surgery and rehab.
Fairly quickly the doctors are getting you up and moving around.
JS's recovery timeline is not matching a knee injury. He certainly would
have been mobile some time ago and able to travel.
Garland could have sent a US aircraft outfitted with medical staff to get him home.
So either the injury was much more severe or there was a reason to stay in Europe.

(115,683 posts)What would it help? It would be nothing but the usual "we'll follow the evidence wherever it takes us; nobody is above the law, blah, blah, blah," because he can't talk about the specifics of who is being investigated or when there will be indictments, which is what everyone wants to know. The results matter; performative and information-free news conferences do not.

(5,125 posts)TRUMP'S POST ON Truth Social
"Jack Smith (nice, soft name, isn't it?), is a political hit man, who is totally compromised, and shouldn't be allowed anywhere near our already highly WEAPONIZED & CORRUPT 'Justice' Department and FBI, which are stuffed with, and listening to, Radical Left 'MONSTERS,' who will cause difficulties for our Country the likes of which we have not seen before," Trump wrote in a recent Truth Social post.
In several other posts, Trump spoke about Smith's family, including one post in which he mentioned Smith's wife, Katy Chevigny, and included screenshots of her applauding President Joe Biden's win in the 2020 election.
"Donald Trump's threats against Jack Smith's family members might very well support an obstruction of justice charge," Kirschner said in the interview. "He's trying to corruptly interfere in the administration of justice and obstructing justice is a 20-year federal felony. It might also constitute interfering or impeding with the official duties of a government employee or official."

Tidbits I get from the media ecosystem indicate he's having no problem running the investigation from where ever he is.
I recommend listening to the "Jack" podcast from Allison Gill & Andrew McCabe to get a thorough understanding of what's going on, why it is so different in a legal court vs J6 committee hearings etc.
