(37,096 posts)Whats the point in such bowls? Although it looked like the liberty had a pretty good crowd. And relative to destination certain fans could have a helluva trip. I wouldnt care who was playing in the Sugar Bowl. I think incrementalism is in order. How bout you must win at least seven games. And then eight the year after that. Never happen if there is money to be made otherwise. Eventually back to Rose, Orange, Cotton, Sugar.

(182,870 posts)We had a long drive a few days ago. My family was talking about bowl games for some reason. The Bluebonnet bowl even before the corporate sponsorships was always one of my favorite names because I had no idea what it was about. Bowl games used to be commodity or industry marketing tools.
The Bluebonnet Bowl was an annual college football bowl game played in Houston, Texas.[1] A civic group was appointed by the Houston Chamber of Commerce Athletics Committee in 1959 to organize the bowl game. It was held at Rice Stadium from 1959 through 1967, and again in 1985 and 1986. The game was played in the Astrodome from 1968 through 1984, as well in 1987. When held in the Astrodome, it was called the Astro-Bluebonnet Bowl. The proceeds from the bowl games were distributed to various Harris County charitable organizations. The game was discontinued following the 1987 season due to poor ticket sales and lack of a title sponsor.[2]

(64,933 posts)Apparently the state flower of Texas is the bluebonnet and that is where the name came from. Its a couple of paragraphs after your quote.
Well I learned something tonight, other than that it was an irrelevant bowl game.

(182,870 posts)Kansas threw for 544 yards only running for 59. Arkansas ran for 394 and threw for almost 300. Basically the more balanced attack won.
Arkansas almost had 3 100 yard runners.

(9,855 posts)I don't think that any players even get a Chevy truck "with technology and stuff".
Though I would make that happen if I were in charge.

(1,766 posts)But that was the prize for the 2014 World Series MVP, not a bowl game.
Just to be clear.
MadBum earned the MVP trophy, and then some. He was a total beast in that series.
