“The events of January 6 were not an insurrection,” Mr Trump said. “They were a protest that got tragically out of control and which the left has been weaponizing ever since.”

“The committee cut the part of my speech out where I encouraged protestors to make their voices heard peacefully and patriotically, but nobody ever says that,” he added.

He again baselessly claimed that the 2020 election was rigged against him.

“The election was a corrupt disaster,” he said.

If he was so concerned about the 'peaceful protest that got out of control', why did he wait 3 hours to tell the crowd to cease, desist and go home?

He did, at one point in the speech, mention marching 'peacefully and patriotically'...it was a 10 second comment with with no obvious encouragement intimations. The rest of the speech was rigged and stolen election garbage, lots of unprovable allegations and a lot of 'you got to be strong and fight to save our county' and 'Mike Pence needs to do the right thing.' Over and over and over...what happened was exactly what he wanted to happen but didn't go as far as he had hoped.

Who does he think he's bullshitting?

He knew the terrorists were armed and did nothing to disarm them. He allowed them to march to the Capitol armed, violent, with the intention of "hanging Mike Pence" and, in all likelihood, killing Nancy Pelosi as well.

If that was a "protest", as he says, it was an armed, violent "protest" that intended to alter the outcome of a fair and decided election by force. That moves the "protest" directly into the insurrection category by anyone's definition. Anyone but you, that is.
