Many Poles will remember 2022 as the year when Russian militarism once again threatened the stability of their state.
In Poland, where the devastation of the Second World War and 45 years of Moscow-imposed Communist rule still pervades the collective memory, Russias invasion of Ukraine often felt too close for comfort.
Tell-tale signs of the war next door are plain to see in Polands cities and towns.
There remains a regular flow of refugees and aid across the Polish-Ukrainian border. In main train stations, information points in Ukrainian offer advice to newly arrived refugees.

in the early 80's Russian occupation of Poland.
She understands, as do all Poles, that concessions to Russia only embolden them to keep pushing for more.
In her words, Russians are "smart, but primitive."
Scary combination when nukes are involved.
