Part of the problem we have these days as to being able to get along with others, get things done and, improve our lives is that
millions of people live in fear that something they say do or in this case write will injure someones feelings. I don't know about you but it is becoming exhausting. I'm not talking about people blurting out insensitive rude or mean things to others there is never a time or place where that should be acceptable. But certain criticisms over simple thoughts where someone is trying to shed light on bad behavior or merely pointing something out or sharing a story good or bad, is unwarranted.
There is nothing wrong with being politically correct and thinking before you speak or post. But is it fair to point out something that may have been left out unintended and pounce on the person that said it? I am sure many of you have seen or been the recipient of such thoughts. I know I have seen it countless times over the years on DU let alone socially with others. If someone is a victim of a hateful act, who do you feel worse for and want to protect? The victim or the perpetrator? I had one such post today where someone took me to task regarding the perpetrator receiving threats for what they had done. Well, excuse me but had that person not done such a vile racist thing, she would not be receiving those threats. Another took me to task for not including girls in the Priest/molestation scandal. I am sorry but the predominant victims of that scandal was boys.
Perhaps you get my point, perhaps you don't. There are countless good people on this board and I am proud to be among you. If something I post needs correcting or your thoughts added to it I have no issue with that and I welcome all comments. No one has all the answers, myself included. Let's please be less judgmental and critical of each other. The republicans do that enough to us as it is. Thank you for your consideration.

(4,035 posts)On a site such as this, with broad support and membership, there will be countless varying opinions on any given fact. Some may be valid and researched, others may just be shoot from the hip opinions. As aggravating as it may sometimes be, our diverse audience here on DU is bound to have disputes within the ranks. Some of us are lawyers who are more informed with legalities, while people like myself are just out there to share a thought - well conceived or not.
Fear not, nightwing1240, youre among friends. Keep up your opining. Diversity of thought and ideas is what makes us unite on common ground, although some of that ground may be unsettling.

(21,349 posts)and Democrats in general, special, is our ability to have rigorous debates with one another on issues. As long as we debate the issue itself and not make the debate personal, that is what sets us apart from the programmed Magat zombies who are told what to think by Fox News.
I graduated from college in 1969 and my #1 takeaway from college was not to blindly believe what I read in the newspaper or see on TV. I am down to only watching Nicolle Wallace on TV and listening to Zerlina Maxwell, Stephanie Miller, and Thom Hartmann. I will watch Mehdi Hasan.

(22,355 posts)"Girls were also victims" is hardly being taken to task. It's adding to the discussion on a discussion board.

(1,996 posts)"girls" was not left out intentionally. smh

(22,355 posts)people I care about, I either do some research on it or say it and then listen to their response. If I'm unsure whether something I'm about to say might upset someone in power who needs to be upset, "afraid" is not in the criteria that goes into whether I say it or not.
And "girls were also victims" doesn't imply that it was.

After listening to 2 women who are sick to death of the divisions into small groups. One is a College student, the other a middle aged Professional woman. They just want people to be equal!
The College student was a soccer star who was accepted to West Point. She left because of the constant lectures on race plus the unfairness of the whole class being disciplined if 1 made a mistake.. she is very disciplined and is quite happy in another ollege.
Both are dark skinned. Both highly intelligent. They want the anger and division to stop.

(8,053 posts)They're usually coming from a place of pain from bad experiences, but they haven't learned to explain their point of view about that topic from a more civil, less angry, frame of mind. I've seen it before on DU, and I usually just get off the thread as soon as that starts.

(17,441 posts)Be polite to someone until they are impolite to you.
I try to be polite always, but being human, I fail sometimes.
If I feel I want to retaliate verbally or in writing, I try to inject some humor.
But in the end, not everyone is going to like me (or anyone), no matter how I behave.

(16,387 posts)The point you made about someone going apeshit because you didnt include girls in the catholic abuse scandal is a terrific example as well.
Pointing out things like the fact that Trump is very fat or the fact Kimberly Guilfoyle is a hideous looking hell beast are also frowned upon.

(1,766 posts)The more PUBLICIZED incidents were of boys, but girls were molested at equivalent rates. It's just that nobody cares about them getting molested the way they do when it's little white boys.

(16,387 posts)On edit i found a link:
In the case of the priest scandal, boys were the victims of sexual misconduct much more often than girls, by a factor of about four to one, says Margaret Leland Smith of John Jay College of Criminal Justice.
https://www.newsweek.com/sex-abuse-church-girls-also-victimized-70741?amp=1
Heres another source that says youre wrong:
Priests abused more male than female victims and had significantly greater access to male youth historically.

(26,079 posts)I worked with a woman in Virginia who had been exploited, groomed, and sexually assaulted and used when she went to her parish priest for...... ready for it?
Her husband abusing her.
This happened in the late 90s. She doubted she was the only one.
It is not new or atypical to have girls sexualized and groomed. But it was so scandalous when the victims were not heteronormative ie boys and young men. That was homosexual and unnatural.

(24,300 posts)and immediatel someone demanded that I delete it because Joe Biden was once a Public Defender. I mean really? I was a car salesman for awhile years ago. Should I demand that all negative posts about car salesmen be deleted?
Thank you, OP, for bringing this up.
