really stupid question about covid

friend of mine is recovering from covid
both his wife and himself came down with it
went to a restaurant and 3 days later they
did a home test and came up positive as well
as 2 others at the restaurant..
anyway he did the home test and was positive
they went to ER .. and the hospital didn't test them
didn't isolate them nothing .. gave them some meds
and sent them home ... is this now the new normal?
I had covid feb 2020 ... and my goodness they sure
didn't do that ... it was like I had the plague or something
anyway I was wondering if this is how hospitals are
treating people with covid.

Many hospitals here in N.E. Ohio don't have enough beds for any patients, mostly due to lack of sufficient staff. In a recent trip to the ER, a nurse told me that nurses are overworked and beds are scarce because so many nurses are quitting due to abusive patients and being overworked. I was informed that if I were to be admitted, my room would be the ER bay I was being treated in.

Was your friend vaccinated and boosted? In a high risk group? Severity of symptoms? these are determining factors now that health care providers have more information about the disease. Which may not have been the case when you contracted it.

and don't require the strict isolation and hospitalization in most cases, especially if the patient is vaxxed and boosted.

But I had sent a picture of positive Covid test to doctor. I spent 7 hours in a very crowded ER while positive for Covid. When I finally was called back for treatment, my assigned DDS not know I was a Covid patient until I told her when she wanted me to remove my mask for a test

They got it on the same day and both died at home shortly after recovering. They passed it around to their kids and grand kids and eventually gave it to my Mom when she went to her sister's funeral. My Mom had a very mild case. She had all of her shots.

So many people get infected with Covid while in the hospital for something else. My dad (vaxxed/boosted) went into the hospital for an injury, got Covid in the hospital, and died from it. It's a disgrace what these hospitals are doing.

Will still test you, but no isolating. My husband was real sick few months back, gave him test, fluids, meds, then sent home. He was real sick for 3 weeks.

When I came home from Texas and had positive test but mild case, only had video doc apt and Paxlovid. I got my pcr test from Rite Aid drive through.

We are going to movies tonight but both wearing mask.

I am currently typing this after I tested positive last night(12/30). Fever of 102/sore throat and a positive home test result. I re tested this morning and got the same result but my temp went down to 100.3.

I have been setting my self up to quarantine til 1/10/23 at home unless my symptoms get worse.

13. Unless your Covid is so critical that you need to be intubated

... you're better off staying home and treating yourself, and that's why hospitals are sending people home.

The medical treatment centers know who are the high-risk patients. Most patients are not high-risk and they shouldn't be taking up the hospital beds from seriously ill patients. Two years ago they couldn't turn people away, so everybody came to the hospitals, and some got a lot more infected than they would have been if they had stayed home.

Your friends were properly treated. I hope they really did quarantine and stayed home for the proper number of days. The infectious time is in the first couple of days of contact, mainly when most people don't know they're carrying the virus yet. My experience is that you can give yourself the home-test and it might even tell you negative - but could be a false reading. You might be infected, but you don't have enough of the virus to trigger the "positive" reading. That's what happened to me.
