...who collapsed.
Actually, yes we have.
In the summer of 2021, Danish soccer/football player Christian Eriksen, who currently plays for Manchester United, had a cardiac arrest on the pitch and was clinically "gone" initially. He not only survived, but returned to playing and just played for his country in the World Cup.
He had an internal defibrillator implanted.
I was sure his soccer career was over.

May this young man be just as fortunate.

Granted it's college not the NFL, but this kinda thing 'has been seen', maybe not on a such a huge stage as tonight's hugely important (to the standings) MNF game, but ... it's been seen in Football for sure.

(27,822 posts)Someone could have looked it up, but I didn't feel like being treated to a lowlight reel of horrific injuries anyway.
But I agree that it was been seen before.

There are highly trained medical providers right there. Erikson was conscious when they took him to the hospital that was next door to the arena.
Plus they are in great physical shape which helps also.
Hope the Bills player makes a full recovery.

(33 posts)I am sure they meant they had never seen this on the football field, and I am sure this is true from their experience. But Commotio Cordis is far too common in youth sports, particularly baseball. USA Baseball/Little League still does not require players to wear protective undershirts. When I coached I tried to require it but was overruled by the our league.
