What If The Sane Portion Of The Repug House Came Over And Voted For Hakeem Jeffries For Speaker?....

Work with me here. Hear me out.

I have to think that there are enough Repugs in the House that consider themselves traditional Repugs and would do anything to get their Party back to their basics.

I can see them recovering some of their former stature if they come over and vote for Hakeem Jeffries for Speaker and work with the Dems for the next two years on a truely bipartisan basis and help the Dems push through legislation that is good and positive for the American People.

I believe that these Repugs would gain some respect from the American People and would bring other like minded Repugs with them in the future.

The way things are now - these traditional Repugs have no hope. But if they work with the Dems - get some good bipartisan legislation passed - to me they would have a selling point to move the Country back to more traditional and democratic governance.

They have to start somewhere - and to me that jumping point is throwing in with the Dems now - forget the crazies and Maga's in their Party - and quit the tit for tat retribution and revenge politics.

This would help them leave Tr**p behind and leave the MAGA's behind and get the Repug Party back so that the country can have a real two Party - negotiation based - for the People government.

In my opinion - it is the last chance of the sane traditional Repugs to make sure that the Party survives.

If McCarthy or the crazies take over - they won't get anything done in the next two years because they don't know how to govern. That would doom the Repug Party in 2024.

Should Biden and the Dems try and get some of these traditional valued Repugs to vote Hakeem Jeffries for Speaker and work on some good bipartisan legislation over the next two years?

a handful of some sane traditional Repugs to throw in with the Dems.

I think something like this can be pulled off. I'm thinking it could be more than a dream.

It seems like these 20 members have some sort of personal vendetta against McCarthy, I don’t see much standing in Scalise’s way once he gets there.

There will be some consensus candidate long before they decide to just give their majority away to Democrats.

and they would all lose re-election.

if one or two decided to do this and it became public... and the rest backed down... those one or two would never get a committee assignment, would be assured of a primary challenge, no funding, etc.

Witness Lynn Chaney.

These Congressmen just bought themselves two more years.

If the Dems were smart - they'd be calling around some of these guys tonight and if they had to even promise them some committee appointments.

Look how well Kinsinger and Chaney did with the Repugs. Surely there are others in the Party that are like minded.

I think it's worth a shot.

left) Rethug as Speaker.

Don Bacon? Larry Hogan (as the Speaker doesn't have to be elected to the House)? Dan Newhouse? David Valadao?

That will take a significant chunk of Dem votes, as the hardcore MAGAt side (at least half of the 222 I wager) will never vote for a truly moderate Rethug.

A lot of minds can be changed in two years - if even those people that hate Dems - see that they would gain benefit to real bipartisan legislation versus impeaching Biden; Hunter Biden's laptop; killing the momentum the J6 committee has made; ending Medicare and Social Security; and all the other hair brained ideas that the crazies are pushing.

I admit they've been pretty silent up till now - but that's because they were worried about their jobs going into the midterms. Now that the midterms are behind them and they have another two years before they have to worry again - I think some of them could be coaxed out.

The GOP has purged moderates from their ranks. Between the Tea Party and the Maggats they're all just traitors now.

There were 10 and 2 are left after retirements, primarying, and seat flips - Reps. David Valadao (CA-22) and Dan Newhouse (WA-4).

All Jeffries needs is 6 from the other side (and that could come from some freshman who were elected in redistricted swing seats).

I doubt that the GOP would allow that much of a humiliation to happen though but that pathway is still there in the background.
