(3,310 posts)The fact that the other board members have no problem and there are "nice" white folks who have reservations in the same section, it certainly seems as if she is indeed racist for singling Steer out. The "hey, look at me, I'm a social worker who has helped a few young black people" isn't convincing to me that she isn't.

(1,986 posts)...It was funny when the reporter asked her if she was a racist like anyone would just say yes.

(3,310 posts)One of the phrases that burns my ass the most is when someone starts out with "I'm not a racist but...". I know I'm going to hear something horrible I'd rather not.
She didn't come out and say it, but given that she's the only one with a problem -- and a problem with the only black occupant of the Interfaith section of the cemetery -- her case stinks.

(8,830 posts)Nasty, in fact. I hope her own congregation muzzles her quickly and stops this nonsense.

(12,017 posts)should be the way it is rewritten. this is nothing about Jewish religion or ties to the congregation. if she objected so vehemently, at least she should have done it before she was interred...not that it would have been much better..

(9,694 posts)there are huge cemeteries, Jewish, Christian, etc. The bylaws of the Jewish ones require Jews only. Even if it's the spouse of someone buried there, that doesn't count. Whether one belongs to any congregation is irrelevant.
The Straight Story
(48,121 posts)Never really wondered if the people in it were Catholics or not (ie, wife might be, husband wasn't). Can't imagine a place that would not bury family together.

(5,857 posts)has very strict requirements for burial and treatment of the deceased.
For instance, in New Orleans the Jewish cemeteries are the few that are actually above sea level, and are buried like elsewhere, instead of using cairn's.

(108,903 posts)it was created by the temple so that jews and non-jews could be buried there.
and the woman who wants to exhume even voted to create it -- though now she is claiming that non-jews must have 'ties? to the temple.

(5,857 posts)I was just commenting on the fact that many Jewish cemeteries don't allow interfaith sections (including spouses, etc.)
