...thinking they'll gain the majority vote if enough Dems leave?
You've already tried that strategy. How'd that work out, Kev?

(33,337 posts)I'd bet that the world's worst Poot -- if not too distracted by his own troubles -- is still trying to influence members of the crazy caucus.

I was never there for the party, but did repairs after.

(102,236 posts)Being sick with this nasty non-covid, non-flu URTI mess is bad enough. Watching this much longer might just destroy my will to live.

That's why I wear a mask into every public access building I enter!
I have a vulnerability regards to sinus infections, but since I've been wearing masks for the past 2-3 years, I haven't had even one or been sick at all!

(102,236 posts)as it can be readily spread hand-to-mouth or eyes or by spray into the eyes and this virus (far more than influenza) remains viable on contact surfaces for a long time.
So, up the hand-washing to an OCD level and think about wearing glasses of some kind in any trafficked indoor environ.

Reminder that the Republicans AREN'T in control of what's happening, beyond potentially having the opportunity to adjourn or try a rules change.

(82,849 posts)And working late is anathema. So I don't expect much if anything from this ploy, and I don't think I'll be disappointed.
But enough about that. Isn't there a provision in the Constitution that says if the new Congress isn't sworn in by the first day of the year after the New Year's holiday that the House is dissolved for the duration of the Congress, and the Senate is now in sole charge of the legislative branch? I'm pretty sure it's in there (or at least implied by the absence of any reference to it in the Constitution).
All that needs to happen is for the President of the Senate (or, in the absence of the Vice President, the President Pro Tempore) to declare the House out of order for the duration of this Congress, so the Senate Democrats now control all the power of both houses of Congress. Let me consult my legal beagles, Rudy "Hair Sweat" Giuliani and Sidney "Kraken" Powell.
