Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsSo, the Chrisleys, the "squeaky clean" CHRISTIAN couple who, for years, hosted a TV show and
held themselves up as paragons of virtue and "proof" that God rewards the hardworking faithful---are starting their prison sentences. He will serve 12 years; she will serve 7. It seems their "success" involved frauds that yielded them over 30 million dollars and funded their $300,000 a year clothes spending.
But, hey---at least they weren't gay and didn't do doobies, amiright?

(16,296 posts)Pretentious, shallow family all glitter, smiles and privilege. Then again look at the kardashians parlaying that phony life style into a "reality" show. Reality my ass.
Looking into my crystal ball, I predict:
In the near future - THE TODD AND JULIE EVANGELIST HOUR - Send your prayer seed money for a bag of Holy Sand from the Hills of Jerusalem.
Hell, if it worked for Jim Bakker, why not them?

(27,808 posts)I don't watch their shows, but I have no real beef with them. They aren't asking their viewers for money. They clearly aren't racist. I don't bother with them, but I can't figure out why they bug people so much.

(16,389 posts)I'd like to know, too!
According to Wikipedia, Ryan Seacrest came up with the idea for the series and his company produced it, so, at least in theory, he should be able to answer that question.

(10,163 posts)I watched once or twice years ago and he came across as a very flamboyant gay man who was an anti-LBGT+ Christian. Even my spouse thought it was a comedy routine.
He made jokes that implied he was gay, scoffed at others who called him gay and insulted other people for not being straight. He would ask his wife and sons if the bright pink and purple shirts he was wearing were too "gay" looking.
It was a Saturday Night Live skit in the making. He was a walking contradiction. I thought people watched him to see him act out this..... routine.....I can't believe people thought he was being authentic.
I was surprised his wife went along with it because he would get the younger boys involved in the gay bashing too. If the boys didn't respond in the right way, he would punish them right there and then, not physically, just threatening to take away toys and things. That's when I realized he was serious and stopped watching.
So he's been acting out all these years? Wow, the guy has some serious self loathing issues and now is a criminal. I feel sorry for those kids.

(17,912 posts)has traditionally made law enforcement loath to go after religious groups for crimes anyone else would have been busted for years ago. Like Warren Jeffs and the whole fundy Mormon deal was some new thing, when in reality they'd been raping and abusing young girls for decades.

(10,252 posts)I never watch any of those church shows. Hey I'm a Buddhist, so much of the established church dogma is just implausible poppycock to me. Which has nothing to do with the practice of peace, loving kindness, and helping the disadvantaged and poor. All that Christian god rewards true believers with prosperity crap is just another grift.

(1,779 posts)for saying that.
Most of the time, I just sit here and shake my head in disbelief over the continual onslaught of hateful comments toward Christians, but once in a while I just can't help but say something. I would never say something like that about someone elses beliefs, or use such broad brushes to label entire groups of people based on how some misguided ones behave. It really is difficult to believe that is allowed here.
Ligyron
(7,632 posts)I mean, what do you believe and why do you believe it?
If you believe an all powerful, all knowing entity who can do absolutely anything sent his son (who is also him somehow) on a suicide mission to be tortured to death and that only this somehow permits him to forgive our sins, yeah... you might want to examine that belief a little more closely.
Who or what could possibly compel him to do such an awful thing?
He makes the rules doesn't he? So, since he can do anything, why not just forgive us and skip all the bloodshed? You and I no doubt forgive sins every day, and we sure don't have to go through anything like that horror show before we allow ourselves to do so.
The general idea seems to be that he loves us but we need this forgiveness so we can go to this heaven place to be with him forever. Which frankly doesn't sound like much fun to me, but okay, if he truly loves us so much, why couldn't we just be born in heaven and skip this vale of tears?
You know, when all is said and done, the practice many Christians have of wearing the representation of a torturous execution devise around their necks says a lot I think.
ForgedCrank

(16,389 posts)I saw lots of those and always found them extremely off-putting, because the sheer phoniness was so blatant and over the top. My built-in b.s. detector was like, "No. Just NO."
I have been known to watch certain reality shows, but the ones that are based around showing spoiled rich people acting like spoiled rich people (whether they are Chrisleys or Kardashians or so-called "real housewives" of fill in the blank) have no appeal to me. They obviously appeal to a lot of people or there wouldn't be so many of them; I'm just not one of those people.

Her face is front and center fully to the camera but shes positioned so that you can see her curves.
