If the House GOP is getting hysterical about the $31 trillion Federal Debt,

let them rescind the Trump Tax Cuts. Let them vote to take Trump's expenditures out of the next Budget.

They can find other ways to "balance the Budget" without touching Social Security, Medicare, and/or Medicaid.

Let’s start calling the debt ceiling exactly what it is: paying Donald Trump’s bills. It’s not allowing for new spending,
it’s paying for much of what Trump and @SpeakerMcCarthy recently spent.

The deficit is the yearly shortfall of revenues vs. expenditures.
The debt is the cumulative result of deficits.
The deficit actually went down under Biden, but the debt still went up.
Despite my nitpicking, I agree with you in principle.

A lot of folks confuse the debt and the deficit which makes for chaos during political discussions. Thanks for the clarification.

can get the message out through the flyers that they send to their constituents telling about their achievements. Say what they are doing to right the wrongs.

Individual citizens can do the same. "Here is what your Democratic House Member (or Senator) is doing for you and why it's necessary "

through email ... but yeah, they probably have USPS addresses for all constituents, but not emails.

On the other hand, you can lead a Republican to information, but you can't make them read it (and if you could, they wouldn't believe it anyway.)

and "no college loan forgiveness for you! Pay your damn bills!", we've got to pay it off. By their logic that is. Thus...raise taxes. No other way around it. They simply can't cut enough to pay that down. And don't even think about cutting SS. It's a self funded program and NOT part of the 31 trillion.

On Edit.... Remember Iraq and Afghanistan operations the reich was so in love with back in the 2000's? Well, that's a big part of the 31M.

cut their federal allotment to what they are paying in federal taxes.

And if they're worried about SS, then why not calculate the SS tax receipts by state then distribute them to all the recipients in that state?

I mean, it's only fair that you get back what you put in, right?

Social Security cannot add to long-term deficits because it is prohibited from borrowing. Republicans lie, and change the slant to get what the rich backers desire.
